That's a good article. As far as "left" is concerned, Israel is an issue of non-class origin. Neither Israel nor the PLO, nor for that matter a single one of the Arab or non-Arabic Islamic nations who have one way or another declared themselves enemies of Israel are socialist nations. (Some are arguably national socialist, for reasons that by origin have nothing to do with Judaism, but that's a horse of a different color).
The author does omit that if not for the horde of European Jewish refugees crashing across national borders and pouring into a territory where the inhabitants didn't really want them changing the culture and politics of the place, there would have been no expulsions of Jews from North Africa in the first place.
