On January 9, 2015 CAIR's Southern California director, Hussam Ayloush, spoke at an event in Orange County focused on ISIS. I was present and recorded his remarks. Ayloush stated that only a dozen or so American Muslims had been documented as traveling to Syria and Iraq to join ISIS. He then contrasted that number to the thousands of American Jewish men who had joined the Israeli Defense Forces "killing the people of Gaza".
Of course, Ayloush omitted the many Muslim men who have been arrested as they attempted to leave the country to join ISIS or were assisting ISIS in some material way. That number continues to grow. This week, an Orange County Muslim pleaded guilty to similar charges. Hey! That's your jurisdiction, Mr Ayloush. Now we have a couple arrested in Mississippi as they were leaving the country. Furthermore, the man charged is the son of a local imam. Creeping Sharia has the details.

In every one of these cases, we can only hope that the investigators are looking beyond the suspects' emails and computers. They need to determine to what extent if any, these people have been influenced by the mosques they frequented. By some estimates, some 80% of American mosques are preaching intolerance and jihad to some extent or another. I don't know if that number is accurate, but even if it is 10% we have a problem on our hands.
Meanwhile,. we have people like Ayloush claiming that it should be left to the mosques and Muslim community to identify and counsel radicalized people. Every new case of an American Muslim trying to join ISIS puts the lie to that reasoning.
