Tulsa Cop Punished for Refusing to Attend Mosque Service

Hat tip Investigative Project on Terrorism

It has gotten this bad. A police department ordered a captain to attend religious services at a local mosque, suspected of having ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and to order his own subordinates to attend with him. He refused and was punished. This is a case to watch as he is working his way through the legal system with help from the Thomas More Law Center.

This is not an isolated case as far as police departments visiting mosques in their area. Many are doing it in the name of outreach and making connections in the local Muslim community, which is fine. Except there are many cases where local law enforcement is putting its imprimatur on suspect mosques and suspect imams by attending events and speaking at said mosques in support of certain agendas. One need no look no farther than Southern California, where former LA Country Sheriff Lee Baca and LAPD's Michael Downing  have bounced from mosque to mosque and refuse to listen to bad reports from the citizenry. Here  is one example which took place in 2012 at the Islamic Center of Orange County in Garden Grove, which is under head imam Muzammil Siddiqi.

"At some point, Chief Downing came over, and I repeated the same concerns I had to him. As to Siddiqi, he stated that over time some people change. He asked me if I was a member of any organization, and I replied that I was not. I also asked him if he knew about people like Zuhdi Jasser and Stephen Schwartz. He seemed not be aware of them, but asked if they were connected to people like Steve Emerson and David Horowitz. I replied that as far as I knew, they were not. I did elicit one telling comment from Downing. When I told him that I had concerns about leading Islamic organizations in the US like CAIR, MPAC, ISNA, ICNA etc, he stated that "CAIR is problematic."

Amazing! When I told Downing about the fact that in 1992, Siddiqi had hosted the Blind Sheikh at this mosque and had translated his sermon on violent jihad in real time, Downing's response was, "Well, Gary, you know over time some people change".

Developing contacts within the Muslim community is fine. Protecting their rights is fine. Helping advance the idea that sharia law is not a threat to America and is in perfect conformance with our Constitution is not fine. Police departments should use discretion and the intelligence available to them in choosing which mosques or community leaders they will support and promote.
