Weak-kneed German politicians are demanding that Germany's largest newspaper, Bild am Sonntag apologize over remarks made in print about Islam by one of their editors, Nicolaus Fest.

It may be offensive to innocent German Muslims, but if Germany is going to continue to stand against a resurgence of its Nazi past then it has to support, not condemn, Fest's words. What Fest is describing may not be German in nature, but it sure is the closest thing to Nazism in the world today.
Given its unique history, Germany must take a leading role in fighting the resurgence of Jew hatred in Europe, and it cannot do so in a vacuum not naming the main perpetrators of this Jew hatred. It is coming from Islamic sources. To pretend otherwise would be akin to blaming skin heads for what happened in the 1930s and 40s.

After WWII, the Germans were humiliated and disgraced for what they did in the Holocaust.
I guess it is too much to expect that their society would remember that at least 100 years.
Fest is a fool, as well as a bigot. All those things that bother him are more than fair game for criticism, even for ruthless suppression.
But characterizing "Islam" as those things, is a slander on all those good Muslims that Gary mentions as an afterthought when assuring us he is not a bigot.
Christianity is good. Burning heretics is bad. Islam is good. Honor killings are bad. Right now, the most active currents of religious thuggery happen to be committed in the name of Islam. Those doing so should be exterminated. That will leave 999,980,000 Muslims alive and well.
Well, at last Siarlys may be onto something. If, as he suggests, we were to "exterminate" the several hundred million Muslims who either engage in "religious thuggery" or support the ones that do, then the figure of 999,980,000 alive and well Muslims might even be fairly or somewhat accurate, at least probably in the ballpark.
And for that matter, the remaining ones might see fit not to stray into extremism.
