This week, I reported on the speaking appearance of Imam Muzammil Siddiqi at Cerritos College in Southern California. Siddiqi is a native of India. During his remarks, he told the audience how Muslims have lived in peace and harmony with other faiths for centuries. He singled out his native India (which is majority Hindu) as an example.
Well, I would certainly take issue with Siddiqi on that point-including India, where there is indeed strife between Hindus and Muslims. Now comes this AP article on the situation facing Hindus as a minority in Pakistan.

Siddiqi never mentioned the status of Hindus in Pakistan.

I didn't know there were any Hindus left in Pakistan. When India was partitioned, British-trained military officers had to choose which side to offer their services to. It has been recorded quite thoroughly that Hindu officers had no choice -- Pakistan didn't want them. Muslim officers, however, were welcome in either nation. I had thought it was about the same for civilians -- and for the overwhelming majority, it was.
Of course Muslims in India do occasionally experience mass slaughter at the hands of Hindu mobs, or the summary destruction of centuries-old mosques without a trace of police interference. But then, they could experience that in Pakistan too, at the hands of fellow Muslims.
