The New York Times' Shameless Comparison of Tea Partiers to the Weather Underground

How many similarities or differences do you see between the two pictures?



Any reasonable observer knows that the New York Times, once the most prestigious newspaper in the nation, has totally lost credibility due to its left-oriented, Democrat bias. The March 26 article in their Week in Review section takes slander to a new low as they cleverly imply comparisons between the current Tea-Party protesters and the infamous Weather underground movement of the 1960s-70s.

Of course, the clever writer just dangles the comparisons out there along with the photos and lets the readers infer the "obvious conclusions".

This is an article quite easy to refute. It goes to the very foundation of the canards being bandied about by the left about the Tea Party protesters.

First of all, the Weather Underground was a true terrorist group that operated outside the law and practiced violence. Just ask professor Bill Ayers of the University of Illinois at Chicago. He was a member. By his own admission, he was involved in bombings. He and his wife, Bernadine Dohrn were fugitives for years hiding from the FBI around the country.

In contrast, the people you see at Tea Party protests are every-day folks, mostly middle-aged and elderly. They are angry about the things that the government is doing that are adversely affecting their lives. They are protesting, holding placards, yelling and making their displeasure heard.

Legally.

You see, the folks in the Tea Party are not going underground. They're not setting off bombs. They are not assaulting anyone. To my knowledge, there has not been one single arrest of a Tea Party protester. That is because they are following the rules of legal protest.

But to hear the Democrats and the media tell it, you would think it was time to call in a UN peace-keeping force. That's because the left-wing strategy is to paint the protesters as some out of control savage mob about to start hanging people from trees. Here we have a mainstream media that tells us that the protesters are bent out of shape because we have a black president. Nonsense. They are angry because of the policies.

Lately, we saw disturbing accusations leveled at a crowd in front of the Capitol when the vote on health care was carried out. One man was accused of spitting on Emanuel Cleaver, while others were accused of using the n-word. I myself expressed alarm at that. Yet, the video fails to disclose any deliberate attempt to spit on Mr Cleaver and the audio fails to disclose any use of the N-word. The congressmen involved -including Cleaver, have now gone silent

In addition, some politicians on both sides have had offices attacked with bricks or received ugly phone messages. I don't condone that, but I am not convinced that those incidents are typical of anyone or anything. There will always be a few fringe loons on both sides who cross the line of decency. That should not paint everybody else.

If the left is going to try and paint the Tea Party as dangerous radicals, I say show me the proof. Show the arrests. Show me the assaults. Show me the individual profiles of Tea Partiers with a history of radical or unlawful activity. Show me the bombs.

Until then, for the NYT to imply a connection or similarity between the Tea Party and the Weather Underground is irresponsible, dishonest and shameful. It is a gross lie.
