Letterman-His "Funniest" Show Ever

I have never been a fan of David (Football Head) Letterman. First of all, I don't think he is funny. I also think he comes across on his show as an obnoxious jerk. That impression was reinforced recently when he made a crude joke about Sarah Palin's 14-year-old daughter. So, while I didn't watch his show last night, the news about the extortion plot caused me to check out the video of his explanation to his audience. Let me state here and now that I don't care a whit whether Letterman has had affairs with people on his staff or whether he was taking them on three or four at a time. (Maybe the girls were using Dave as the "The Football", get it ?) What I question here is how this guy (who goes to town on the similar picadillos of others)turns this into a comedy routine and converts it into laughs and applause from the audience. Check it out:

Oh, why do I call him Football Head?

Do the math.

On a more serious note, as I watched the video, I kept thinking about the similar response of so many people (especially in Hollywood and France) to the Roman Polanski affair. Not to compare whatever Letterman did to what Polanski did, of course. But is it really appropriate for the audience to be laughing and applauding Letterman? Left unsaid by Dave is whether these encounters took place before or after his recent marriage. I assume, however, that had they occurred before, he would have been quick to point that out.

So anyway, this is my own contribution to Old Football Head using this episode as a comedy routine. Feel free to use the lines, Dave.

Applause?
