"On the Other Hand...."

You can't say that at Colby College

2/21/16Pugh CenterAbilityA student used the phrase "on the other hand".

Colby College, for all you UC Santa Cruz Community Studies majors, is located in Maine. They have recently posted recent bias offenses that have occurred on campus including one ugly incident in which someone said, "on the other hand".

http://www.campusreform.org/?ID=7746

“Bias incidents affect not only the individual victim or target of a specific action, but often make an entire group (or community) feel vulnerable and unwelcome,” the administration warns. “This is unacceptable at Colby and will be treated as a serious offense that could include separation from the College.”

Well, one the one hand, this strikes me (no pun intended) as a bit of an over reaction, wouldn't you say?

"Uhhhh.....yeaaaah."

On the other hand, there is no downplaying the hurt that can be caused to one hand when the other hand is excluded and treated as "the other". Clearly, to refer to only one hand at a time is hardly inclusionary.

Britain Leaves EU-Good

The big news yesterday and today is that the Brits have voted to get out of the European Union. Like Joe Biden would say, "This is a big f----- deal."

I view this as a great development. I hope other European nations follow suit. In fact, I hope the EU dissolves just as the USSR dissolved.

In the aftermath of World War II, an attitude took hold that the nations of Europe had to integrate themselves in order avoid future wars. It worked to a certain extent. Who could imagine that Germany and France would go to war against each other again?

However, what evolved was a giant bureaucracy headquartered in Brussels, where nameless bureaucrats from the respective countries joined to together to pass legislation and regulation that was binding on the member nations-right down to the size of beer glasses.

So to a large extent, Brits voted to leave because they were tired of being subjected to the decisions coming out of Brussels.

But the biggest issue is immigration. The UK, like most of the other countries, has been overrun by immigrants who will not assimilate and who do not accept British values. The EU has had an open border policy, especially with the Syrian crisis. In addition, while thousands of migrants from the Middle East and North Africa were gathered in camps in Calais and trying to jump aboard trucks to cross the undersea tunnel to England, the EU was dictating to the UK and other countries that they had to accept "their fair share" of these migrants or refugees.

Let's be frank. Most of these refugees, migrants, and asylum seekers are Muslims, people not interesting in assimilating. They are  more interested in imposing their own values on the countries they move to. Britain has had enough of Islamic terror and radicalism. They want their country back.

Naturally, if you surf the US cable channels, you find a variety of opinions. While Fox News featured commentators who were favorable, CNN was quite the opposite. There was the elitist journalist Cristiane Amanpour referring to conservative politician, Nigel Farage as "anti-immigrant" and a "xenophobe".

In addition, the stock markets reacted negatively and the value of the British pound dropped. I am no economic expert, but I believe that will pass.

What I hope is that what happened in Britain will spread rapidly to the rest of Europe. About three years ago, I was having dinner with a Swiss friend, a banker, at his home in Zurich. I asked what would happen if the EU dissolved. His answer was that the countries would go back to warring against each other. I heartily disagree. Yes, there is a threat from Russia, but the Western European countries can continue to work together while maintaining their national sovereignty Their mutual interests will continue to keep them together economically, politically and militarily.

But make no mistake: The British vote is a vote not only for national sovereignty but a vote against uncontrolled immigration by people who do not contribute, rather who have proven themselves to be a threat to British society. It is not racist to state that. The facts and the evidence are there in abundance. Europe can accept immigrants from all over the world. It is not skin color but belief system that matters.

The European public is rising up. Their leaders need to start listening.

Another Baltimore Acquittal

Caesar Goodson, one of the Baltimore police officers charged in the Freddie Gray case has just been acquitted on all counts. Goodson was the driver of the paddy wagon that was transporting Gray to jail.

http://www.kmvt.com/content/news/384140031.html

The prosecution claimed that Goodson gave Gray a "rough ride" that resulted in Gray's injuries. Yet another prisoner who was in the van testified that the ride was smooth. In addition, the van was captured on several street surveillance cameras as it drove through the streets of Baltimore and no erratic driving was observed.

It kind of makes you wonder why charges were brought with this kind of evidence. Now that the prosecutors have tried to make the case that Goodson's driving was the cause of Gray's death how do they prosecute the arresting officers?

This prosecution stinks to high heaven.

Judicial Watch Gets One of Hillary's "Yoga" Emails

Here is yet another piece of evidence that Hillary Clinton has tried to hide emails she sent or received on her private server. This concerns one that has been turned over to Judicial Watch as part of their lawsuit.

"The email was included within messages exchanged Nov. 13, 2010, between Clinton and one of her closest aides, Deputy Chief of Staff Huma Abedin."

Doesn't sound like yoga to me-or her daughter's wedding arrangements.

The Democrats "Occupy" Congress

It is clear that the Democrats in Congress have been inspired by the Occupy movement and the antics of certain college students around the land. Their demonstration over a gun control vote was an embarrassment. They acted like juveniles with their chants and jeers. This looked like something off the campus of the University of Missouri or UC Berkeley.

UCI Overturns Ban on College Republicans

"Overturned"

UC Irvine, faced with a backlash and letters of protest, have decided to lift the suspension of the College Republicans "pending appeal". Problem is the College Republicans are apparently not interested in appealing.

More Info on Idaho Case

Hat tip Jihad Watch

This week there were reports that three Syrian boys had sexually attacked a five-year-old girl in the laundromat of an apartment complex they were residing in in Twin Falls, Idaho. Authorities responded to the scene and charges have been filed. The police and prosecutor have denied allegations in the media that a knife was used or that an actual rape took place. (The girl was reportedly undressed and had been urinated upon.) Prosecutors also rejected reports that the boys were from Syrian refugee families. They are Sudanese and Iraqi. Their immigration status is as yet unknown other than they are "recent arrivals".

The Idaho Statesman is running an interview with an 89-year-old woman who came upon the scene and alerted police.

Jihad Watch has updated its report as follows:

Oh, just one more question: I wonder if the College of Southern Idaho's Refugee Resettlement Program (in Twin Falls) can tell us if they had any involvement in bringing these families to Twin Falls.

Just for the record, you know.

Dog Bites Man Report: In Berlin, Jew Attacked by Three Arabs

The below news report (in German) by Morgen Post (Berlin) reports that a young Jewish man wearing a kippa headpiece was attacked by three young Arab-looking men Tuesday evening in the Alt-Trepkow area of Berlin. The men insulted him as a Jew before attacking him, beating him and running away. They are still unidentified.

Hostage Taker Killed by Cops in German Theatre

German police have killed a man who burst into a German movie house south of Frankfurt, shot up the place and took hostages.

Atlas Shrugs is quoting reports the man spoke "broken German". You don't think this could have been one of Angela's kids, do you?

"Naaah."

Here is what Frankfurter Allgemeiner is reporting under the headline, "Who is the hostage taker in Viernheim?" (translated)

http://www.faz.net/aktuell/gesellschaft/viernheim-polizei-erschiesst-bewaffneten-mann-14304218.html

It says the man had no identity papers and there is no indication of an Islamic background.

The Daily Mail (UK) has lots of photos and also reports that the man spoke broken German.

So at this point, we don't know who the attacker is.

If it turns out that this is indeed one of those Middle Eastern refugees, migrants or asylum seekers, this could be a game changer in Germany as far as the country's policy of accepting tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of refugees.

Then again, we thought New Years Eve in Cologne was a game changer.

Campus Watch's List of Professors to Avoid

Hat tip Campus Watch

It's not exactly the $1.98 Beauty Show, but Campus Watch has put out a list of professors you want to avoid if you are attending the places where they "teach". It's hardly surprising to me because most of these names have appeared on this blog over the years. I have actually heard eight of them speak. It would have been nine, but Rabab Abdulhadi failed to show for  scheduled speaking appearance at UCI at the last minute-possibly because I was in the audience with my video camera and the Muslim Student Union failed in their attempt to keep me from videotaping.

http://www.campus-watch.org/article/id/15897

I note that my old friend, Mark LeVine of UC Irvine is on the list. Given all the Howler of the Month awards from Campus Watch he has earned over the years how could they not put him on the list? This is the guy who told me I was not qualified to teach at UCI. (Maybe that's because I have no Howler of the Month awards.)

Keynote Speaker at AAUP Conference

Hat tip Campus Reform

Friday’s presentations and discussions revolved around racial diversity in nursing, “the silent symptom of pervasive minimization on the African American architecture student,” and “otherism” “in the belly of the racist university beast.”

If you need any further evidence that the American Association of University Professors is a left-wing bunch, you need look no further than the keynote speaker at their conference, some guy named Shaun Harper from the University of Pennsylvania. He and others introduced a lot of fresh ideas like burning the American flag, teaching social justice in the classroom, and even the term, "coloreds".

http://www.campusreform.org/?ID=7724

"The professor compared microaggressions to paper cuts, saying that while one may be inconsequential, a series of them could impact a student’s time at a university. To address the issue, he recommended the use of trigger warnings, comparing their helpfulness to that of food allergy warnings."

I think someone beat you to that, Dr Harper.

"During the question-and-answer period at a speech he gave at a small college several years ago, Harper recalled an undergraduate student asking him “why ‘coloreds’ do this and ‘coloreds’ do that,” and used that insensitive line of questioning as an example of racial illiteracy."

Really? Are you sure that wasn't several decades ago, Dr Harper?

Judging by his photo, I doubt it. I strongly suspect he made this up because that term hasn't been used in this country since it went out in the 1960s.

Students Supporting Israel at UCI Issue Statement of Support for College Republicans

Below is the text of a statement put out on Facebook by Students Supporting Israel at UC Irvine in support of the UCI College Republicans:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In regards to the suspension of College Republicans at UC Irvine:
We as Students Supporting Israel at UCI, University students, and Americans value the First Amendment Rights of all regardless of ideology. The suspension of College Republicans at UC Irvine is a clear violation of their rights to freedom of speech and assembly.
When our film screening was disrupted by the same organizations and students that attempted to disrupt College Republicans' event - College Republicans stood by us and now we stand by them. Not just out of friendship but out of unity against the prejudice that UC Irvine has repeatedly demonstrated against Zionist and Conservative groups, against the favoritism the administration has shown to the same groups that repeatedly violate our rights to speech and assembly.
College Republicans is being punished by the administration for ThoughtCrime to have a different opinion, for daring to stand up to the bullies who - rather than protest respectfully - would see alternate viewpoints shouted down and silenced.
It is our hope that after the universal condemnation of student organizations all over the political spectrum - that the administration rescinds this ridiculous punishment and stand behind the American values of the First Amendment and the ignored University value of diversity of opinion.
Sincerely,
Kevin Brum
President of Students Supporting Israel at UCI
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Very well stated, Kevin.
