Hat tip Hot Air and Daily Californian
A few days ago, I read about a White Student Association being established at the University of Illinois (at least on Facebook). It seemed amusing. Now things are getting more amusing. It seems similar chapters are being established at UC Berkeley, UCLA and UC Davis (again, at least on Facebook). Here is an article from the Daily Californian reporting the establishment of the UC Berkeley "chapter".

As you can see from the DC article, there is alarm expressed, and the group is immediately being dismissed as "supremacist".
Perhaps, but I would wait to see if this group makes racist statements about other groups. If that is the case, I would condemn them and advise the school not to grant them recognition. That goes for any similar chapter.
But given the current demonization of "privileged whites" on college campuses, I would ask this:
In the absence of racist sentiments, why is it fine to have black student unions, Asian-American student unions, MEChA chapters, and so on, but a white student association is immediately condemned on its face as racist?
If these are KKK-types, I say to Hell with them. On the other hand, if they truly feel demonized and threatened by all this racial activism on campus, or they are trying to point out the absurdity of students separating themselves on campus by ethnicity and the tribalization that ensues, then they have a point.
I would encourage cool heads and dialogue. Maybe that would result in something positive for a change.

Maybe these white student unions could throw their weight behind the campus efforts to remember 9/11:

I'll tell ya, these college campus kids are just plain nutty these days.
