Washington State University Reacts to Furor Over Dictated Speech in Classroom

Hat tip The College Fix

"We are working with these faculty members to clarify, and in some cases modify, course policies to ensure that students’ free speech rights are recognized and protected."

This week we reported on three teachers at Washington State University who were dictating words that students could not use in their classes. Campus Reform and Daily Caller, among others, were blogs that brought this first to the nation's attention.

In response to the negative reaction, school officials have felt it necessary to take these teachers to the woodshed  er, review and revise syllabi. My friends at The College Fix have a follow-up.

While they are at it, they might suggest to graduate teaching asst. Selena Breikks that she correct the part of her syllabus that reads:

"Three tardies or late departures will equal one absence." (Emphasis mine.)

They might also tell Professor Streamas that the term "white sh--bags" (as applied to conservative students) is not appropriate language. (Maybe they can say it is a micro-aggression or macro-aggression.)

I figured. Some dumb TA went off half-cocked thinking they were ruler of all they surveyed, and as soon as the proper campus authorities were notified, they corrected this misconception.

But Fousesquawk always treats every little incident anywhere in the world like a harbinger of the Second Coming of Christ, or the Anti-Christ, or whatever.

The point is that this crap is going on all over the country. It is part of the culture.

So is heroin use, but most of us don't do it. Opinions are like ________, everybody has one. Some people can't refrain from spouting their's to the skies.

If that is your analogy then campuses are nothing more than shooting galleries. (That's places where addicts go to buy heroin and shoot it up.)

Siarlys--to complete the thought, opinions are like armpits and the distal/nether end of alimentary canals, we all have them. While our own always smell good, the other guy's always stink.

elwood, are we having an argument? In what respect do we disagree?
