Pakistan: Never-Ending Horror

Here is yet another horrific event coming out of that poor excuse of a country called Pakistan. A couple marry out of love without the consent of their parents. Their punishment? They are both beheaded by the bride's family. The reason (according to CNN)? Something about "tribal customs". Here is CNN's partial coverage of another honor killing.

Now here's a quiz for you UC Santa Cruz Community Studies and History of Consciousness majors:

What is missing from the story?

Let me close with this thought: This is the type of multi-culturalism that we don't need here in the US.

These stories out of Pakistan will never serve to wake up folks in the West.
What will wake us up is when a nuclear weapon from Pakistan is utilized against its long and growing list of enemies.
Another wake up call will come from the nuke sites in Iran.
Who will act against this? Probably Israel, because the US is living in its own little world and does not feel threatened. We have this odd illusion that everything will be okay once we're out of Afghanistan.

And here is one coming out of our own nation of America:

Does the term "Honor Killing" apply when the killer is a White Christian???

Or is it conveniently just a case of "Mental Illness"???

Anonymous,

I know the story and the accusation. If this was a murder, where is the honor aspect? Where is the religious aspect.

Everyone is aware, of course, that this sort of thing was being done in Hindu, Buddhist and many other cultures in the region long before Islam arrived? Young couples in Hindu villages get hung for similar reasons, usually marrying across caste lines without the young ladies' fathers permission.
