On Saturday, about 250 Salafist (extremist) Muslims gathered in Duisburg, Germany to hear a speech by Pierre Vogel, a convert to Salafist Islam regarded as a hate monger in Germany. About 20 counter-protesters were also present.
In response, a heavy police presence stood by, and an interfaith meeting was held by Christian, Jewish and Muslim leaders which was also attended by the Lord Mayor of the city in order to counter the event.

According to this account in Vlad Tepes, some counter demonstrators were physically attacked by Salafists, and the black flag of al Qaeda was flown.
