Coming on the heels of Al Gore's sale of Current TV to Al Jazeera, this latest bit by Daily Caller is quite timely. Nihad Awad, the CEO of the unindicted co-conspirator organization CAIR, has told a Saudi interviewer that Muslims actually discovered America first.

Of course, this would fit in perfectly with the extremist Islamic doctrine that anywhere Muslims tread must be once again Islamic land-Spain, for example. And make no mistake, the CAIR types are extremists no matter what their protestations to the contrary.
“Some documents and accounts indicate that Muslim seafarers were the first to reach the U.S., [so] the bottom line is that Islam played a part in the establishment and development of the U.S.,” Awad told the Saudi interviewer, in an interview in a New York studio.
And so goes the reasoning in Awad's fevered mind that America must (once again) be Islamic. The guy sounds like he's been smoking his underwear.
What's next, Awad-Neil Armstrong was a Muslim?
At least Awad cannot claim to have invented the Internet. Everybody knows that was Al Gore. In fact, that was first reported on Al Jazeera.

If you remember Findalis, another thread fit into the notion that Norway and Sweden are overwhelmingly Jewish, thus the bias toward giving Nobel prizes to Jews. Since Jews and Arabs are both of Semitic origin, it stands to reason that some of the Vikings could have been Muslim too! But then we don't know whether it was Jewish Vikings or Muslim Vikings who first discovered America.
Actually, as far as the inhabitants who crossed the Bering land bridge are concerned, everyone else was a latecomer. Needless to say, they predated Muhammed by at least 10,600 years, possibly 30,000.
The best that can be done historically is that in the 18th century, a few Muslims who reached Trinidad set out to convert the entire western hemisphere to Islam. They had a modest impact on Trinidad, but Christianity and Rastafarianism both did far better.
You also should remember Siarlys that even those who crossed the Bering land bridge was a late comer since the first people came over the Atlantic from France. And maybe even earlier people.
It is not who discovered America, but who didn't.
Findalis, I'm sure you know that "France" did not exist as a name of a place until after 800 AD. But unless you are simply being frivolous in the spirit of the discussion, tell us more about the pre-Celtic peoples who sailed from Europe to North America more than 30,000 years ago. Are you sure they weren't Muslims?

I suppose you can claim anything if 80 to 90% of your audience is illiterate and ignorant.
Any reading of the founding documents will not reveal a single Muslim thought or Muslim signer.
Insofar as his claims about the compass are concerned, here is what Wikipedia says:

Insofar as Muslim claims of scientific contributions are concerned, the Scientific Revolution was, by any scientific measure wholly Eurocentric. An astonishing high proportion of scientific breakthroughs came from there. (from, say, the 15th century to the 18th century or even to today regarding the Muslim aspect.)

There is more physical evidence for the Solutreans to have visited/settled the New World than there is for Muslims to visit.
The Muslim contributions to science were primarily during the Abbasid caliphate, not the Ottoman Empire. Muslim scholars preserved a great deal of Greek learning that Europe forgot or destroyed, refined it, applied it, and it all filtered back into Europe in time for the Renaissance. Nobody has a -centric monopoly, not even it a crotchety old Jewish curmudgeon has decided for short-sighted reasons to give European Christians credit they don't deserve. (His ancestors are spinning in their graves, especially the ones killed during the First Crusade).
