For some time now, I have been writing about the boondoggle quasi-governmental Orange County Human Relations Commission, a useless white elephant, that sucks up $300,000 annually of the tax-payers' money. This board is hardly needed to maintain human relations in Orange County, which has a fine track record of people from different backgrounds getting along. In addition, the OCHRC is a politically-correct body that chooses its "human relations" issues very selectively.
The most important thing that we can do this year is urge the Orange County Board of Supervisors to pull funding for the OC Human Relations Commission. Their funding comes from the 5-member OC Board of Supervisors. Last year, there was a move to defund this commission as a waste of taxpayer money. It takes a vote of the BoS to achieve that. This is an idea that needs to be re-visited for 2012.
Two years ago, I wrote a letter to the CEO of the OCHRC, a guy named Rusty Kennedy, complaining about anti-Semitic hate speech on the UC-Irvine campus. Kennedy wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole and castigated me for criticizing the university administrators. On the other hand, this year, he did the bidding of the Council on American Islamic Relations' bidding in holding a hearing on the controver4sial Yorba Linda protest-giving short shrift to the organizers and speakers of that protest who were unfairly and inaccurately smeared by CAIR using an edited 5 minute tape of the event. They then made their decision and came up with a statement pleasing to CAIR without even viewing a one hour version of the event, which had been provided by the organizers that refuted many of the claims made by CAIR-especially against Rep. Deb Pauly. This commission, which is unaccountable to the voters, was guilty of challenging the citizens' right of free speech in objecting to two known radical Islamic clerics who came to speak in Yorba Linda.
Then, just this past month, they honored Muzammil Siddiqi with an award in spite of protests pointing out a series of questionable statements made by the Garden Grove imam as well as numerous questionable associations that call into question any claims of him being a true Muslim moderate.
If you think this is a non-political commission, then ask why Rusty Kennedy would travel to South Africa to represent Orange County at the 2001 Durban Conference on Racism, which, in reality, was nothing more than a one-sided bashing of Israel. Also ask yourself what the point is in honouring a terrorist like Yasser Arafat in South Africa on the occasion of him winning a Nobel Peace Prize (a joke in itself).
Any objective examination of what this commission does would conclude that it does not justify the money spent to support it. The tax-payers of Orange County have far better things to spend their money on than sending Rusty Kennedy on junkets to South Africa.
If you live in Orange County, you can have your voice heard by sending an e-mail to the below-listed BoS members and asking them to vote to defund this monstrosity. We can do this, but the people must speak out.

There are a large number of commissions we could well do without. I have no position to advise the Orange County board, since I don't live there or vote for them. It would be a good idea, across the board, to examine boards and commissions all over the country, to assess whether they are really serving any significant purpose.
Another thing that should be investigated are all the defeated or termed -out politicians who wind up on state boards that meet once a month and earn six-figure salaries.

In January of this year, a spate of racial invectives were spray painted around the OC. rusty kennedy unnecessarily promoted more distrust and fear amongst the residents of orange county with his comment on these racist remarks ""It sounds like there is a group of hate mongers who have traveled around the county doing this stuff," this comment reflects rusty kennedy's paranoid tip of the iceburg of racism and intolerance he likes to annually present to the public and BoS to justify continued funding of his OCHRC troop. In fact, it was not a group of hate mongers but a lone 56 year old woman with a history of mental illness. rusty kennedy inflames the public with his irresponsible comments that pits groups against each other while pointing a morally superior finger at anyone who dare criticize his latest publicity stunt to gain attention, lauding Siddiqi an equally inflammatory spokesperson with an anti-Semitic agenda.this boy scout leader, rusty kennedy, plays with fire and sadly it is the taxpayer who gets burned. It is time to end this fool's etiquette commission.

The OC Board of Superviusors meet on the funding issue June 14-15. It's time to get your cards and letters in, but please make them polite and respectful. To do otherwise only hurts the cause.
