Random Shots in the Dark (34)

I'm rushing to get this posted since we only have a few hours before the world comes to an end, so this may be my last message to the world.

Let me see if I got this straight; we are over 14 trillion dollars in debt, but we're gonna hand out another 2 billion to those struggling democrats (small d) in Egypt. And that's even though it looks like the Muslim Brotherhood will wind up on top. I'm no financial genius, but it sure doesn't make sense to me.

Especially since the end of the world is today.

I really wonder what the Egyptians are gonna use the money for anyway. Perhaps to train their army to invade Israel, or to burn down Christian churches. That takes money, you know. Maybe they can build a palace for Yusuf al Qaradawi, so he can live in comfort giving speeches about killing infidels, Jews and Buddhists.

Of course, the Egyptians are reacting with gratitude.

Speaking of the Middle East, is Congress going to let Obama keep that "war-footing" in Libya beyond the 60-day limit before he has to get Congressional approval? What war you ask? Why that's the little affaire that Obama told us would last days rather than weeks. Yes, the French and Albanians are running the show, at least until their top general gets caught with his pants down, but you know sooner or later, les Americaines will have to come and rescue them.

Hey! Did ya hear that joke about the French Foreign Legion lieutenant just assigned to some desert outpost in Libya? After a few weeks, he starts getting, well, you know..........

Never mind.

Did'ya see that spanking Obama got from Netanyahu yesterday in front of the White House press corps? If you know anything about body language, you would conclude that Obama was pretty upset about it.

On a somewhat lighter note, if you are in New York and see a white-haired guy in a suit walk up to your car at a stop light with a tin cup, it might just be Dominique Strauss-Kahn, now known to les Americains as DSK. Now that he has made bail, he still has no home to go to to be under house arrest, you see.

Well, it will only be for a few hours-until the world comes to an end.

On second thought, it might be former California governor Arnold Katzenjammer. He apparently has no home either since that rock-a-bye baby story broke a few days ago. I suppose Arnie can always stay in Fabian Nunez's spare bedroom, the one that son Esteban isn't using while he serves out the remainder of his now-shortened sentence for stabbing people.

But no matter what happens in the world, one thing remains constant:

The Cubs still suck.

But there is good news in Wrigleyville. The ivy is still there, watered by centuries of Cub fans' tears, and........we still have Big Z and Alfonso Soriano under contract far into the future.

Now I know why Ed Schultz is always in a foul mood.

Meanwhile, ex-skipper Lou Piniella was spotted recently down in Florida enjoying his retirement. Friends say he's never looked so good since he gave up the Cubs managerial job.

But since the world is coming to an end tonight, I will definitely never live to see my Cubbies in the World Series. Then again, I don't have to watch Soriano and Big Z any more either.

See y'all on the other side.

Not to worry Gary,

Ezekiel. the prophet found himself in a valley where there were dry bones. The dry bones would be resurrected. A storm broke out and caused the bones to join limb to limb until they became skeletons.
Presently the skeletons were clothed with flesh and skin. The dead bodies were revived by the spirit of G-d and a mighty host rose on its feet before the prophet's eyes. There would be one united nation, restored to the land. The Holy Temple would be rebuilt, and Israel would enjoy unity with G-d as never before. The prophet described in detail the new Jerusalem, and new Temple. All would be well.
I wonder, will Glenn Beck meet this Prophet in August?

Will the Cubs win the pennant?

"Will the Cubs win the pennant?" Ask Glenn Beck when he returns from Jerusalem.

Well, we're all here. You've written two columns since the end of the world.

But then, almost everything you wrote was about some alternate reality on a planet far away.

Didn't you hear? Obama doesn't have to ask Congress for funds or permission to attack Libya. It isn't a war, its just an minor operation of the military.

Glad I did not give my truck away to the swingers next door. I just knew they would not be in on the Rapture.

You should have more faith in the Cubs. Like the lottery or the Second Coming of Christ (which our Jewish friends don't believe in, and I frankly am not planning on either), you will miss out on being able to say "I told you so" the year they DO win it all.

(Yes, I remember the year they won two games of a five-game playoff series at home, then gave up all three away games at San Diego. But nothing bad lasts forever).

At risk of being a bit crude, although not, I think, unfair to you, it is a bit embarrassing the way you parade in public your wet dream about an alien prime minister spanking the President of the United States. Its not very patriotic either.

Not being given to living in a fantasy world. I observe that both of them conducted themselves like adults, who knew damn well they didn't agree, and weren't so dishonest as to pretend otherwise, nor so cowardly as to cancel the meeting. Netanyahu is, in my seldom humble opinion, wrong. His policy is unworthy of support with U.S. taxpayer dollars, albeit we can't throw Israel to the wolves either.

Siarlys,

Remember that Netanyahu is trying to protect his country from utter destruction. That deserves support. Obama has no idea what that is all about.

Netanyahoo is driving his country off a cliff, and demanding that the USA hold tightly onto his hand while he does so. President Obama is pursuing a well balanced policy of pressing Israel to do what will be best for Israel AND the friends it depends on, but thinks it can manipulate regardless of their best interests OR best judgement.
