Now I am no defender of Michael Brown, but he did not, as Gibbs stated, accuse the administration of deliberately setting the oil spill. He implied that they delayed their reaction to it so as to let the situation get worse. Thus, they would have an excuse to stop off-shore oil drilling. For the record, I have no opinion on that question.
Here is Gibbs' "clarification" on Thursday:
