Rabbi Dov Fischer Asks, "What the Hell is Going on at UCI?"

One of my local Orange County allies, Rabbi Dov Fischer, has written an article in Cross-Currents, which I am cross-posting. It concerns the on-going (yes, on-going) madness at UC-Irvine. (Tonight there was another dopey event put on by the Students for Justice in Palestine-report to follow.) Here is Rabbi Fischer's article.

UN Human Rights Council Report Praises Libya

Yes, folks, even as Libya slaughters protesters in the streets, the UN Human Rights Council has prepared a report that praises the human rights "improvements" in Libya. And why not? Libya is a member of said council.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/02/28/council-poised-adopt-report-praising-libyas-human-rights-record/

Libya.

Can't make this stuff up, folks.

I wonder if our National Intelligence chief has read it.

"Libya? Where is that?"

No wonder President Obama was so slow to respond. He must have thought that everything was going swimmingly in Libya.

Seriously, folks. If that is what we can expect from the UN, why on earth should any self-respecting, free country continue to be a part of that organization?

Students For Justice in Palestine Shut Down Israeli Speaker in Scotland

Hat tip to OC Independent Task Force on Anti-Semitism

A few days ago, an Israeli government official was scheduled to speak at Edinburgh University in Scotland.

Watch the video linked below. The local chapter of the Students for Justice in Palestine successfully shut down the event as they actually invaded the stage.

http://octaskforce.wordpress.com/2011/02/21/students-for-justice-in-palestine-shuts-down-lecture-hosted-by-edinburgh-university-jewish-society/

Tonight, the UC Irvine chapter of SJP is hosting three speakers-all Jewish-all rabidly anti-Israel. One is some kind of anarchist, the other two are members of the anti-Israel Jewish Voice for Peace. One of these speakers also participated in the recent disruption of Bibi Netanyahu's speech in New Orleans. I expect that these speakers will be allowed to come and have their say without disruption.

That is because we don't act like brown-shirted thugs like they do,

Quote of the Day From Eleanor Clift

Even by liberal standards, Eleanor Clift is an idiot par excellence. Here she is on the McLaughlin Group asking her astounded co-panelists, "Since when  does Scott Walker 'represent' the people?"

(Hat tip News Busters)

Yes, Eleanor. He got elected.

Another 40 years and Clift will be the new Helen Thomas.

Sequel: Why the Jews Lost the Campus by Charles Jacobs

Charles Jacobs has sent me the sequel to his article which I had previously posted. Here it is.

Why the Jews are losing the battle for the campus

Boston Jewish Advocate February 22, 2011

by Charles Jacobs

The warnings have been there. In 2006, the US Commission on Civil Rights found that “many college campuses thought the US continue to experience incidents of anti-Semitism.” Gary Tobin in his 2005 book “Uncivil University: Politics and Propaganda in American Education,” concluded that “anti-Semitism and anti-Israelism are systemic in higher education and can be found on campuses all over the United States.” Across the country too many Jewish and pro-Israel students are patronized, mocked, intimidated and sometimes physically attacked, while anti-Israel professors poison the minds of America’s future leaders. Yet Jewish leaders have by and large not responded effectively.

How did the Jewish community, known for its rhetorical genius, lose a critically important political battle on American campuses? Here is a thumbnail sketch:

In 1990, James Zogby, president of the Arab American Institute, explained on Jordanian TV how the Arab Lobby can and will match Jewish political and organizational success in America (the clip is on youtube, bit.ly/gh5U6d). Zogby and his allies recognized that the campus and the media, unlike Capitol Hill, are two battle grounds that Arabists could win by allying themselves with the American left. In both venues they already had beachheads and feet on the ground. The campus was in transition politically, influenced by ’60s tenured radicals who had adopted the dogma of post-colonialism, and its Palestinian version, Professor Edward Said’s “Orientalism.”

Moreover, America was experiencing a significant increase in foreign born Muslim students as well as increased Muslim immigration (many from countries with a culture of vicious anti-Semitism). Zogby focused on forming alliances with Marxist professors, die-hard socialist activists, African- American student groups, gay-lesbian groups and, most importantly, Jewish progressives. He also realized that an emerging anti-Israel Left/Muslim axis on campus could be better organized and benefit from an inflow of Arab petro dollars into prestigious American universities. All this was happening while many Jewish leaders, intoxicated by the Oslo agreement, were abandoning Israel programming.

Today, we can see the brilliance of Zogby’s strategy: Anti-Israel sentiment suffuses the campus atmosphere. In the classroom, radical professors express the the dominant narrative that the Palestinians are right and the Israelis are in the wrong. In its mild form, the Palestinians suffer needlessly at the hands of Israeli occupiers; in its more vicious version, Israel is a racist, genocidal apartheid nation. Outside the classroom, anti-Israel groups hold conferences, screen films and conduct theatrical demonstrations that portray Israel in the harshest of terms. Israel’s advocates are rudely interrupted, prevented from speaking; pro-Israel events are disrupted; Jewish students are intimidated verbally or even physically, and are excluded from pro-Palestinian events. Pathetic attempts by Jewish groups to initiate dialogue with Palestinian students are rejected. Any acknowledgement of Israelis’ humanity is seen as a validation of Palestinian oppression. Our epoch’s secular religion – political correctness and multiculturalism – judges people by who they are, not what they do. Israelis are by definition always guilty, while darker skinned, impoverished, indigenous Palestinians are eternally innocent.

Far more than their parents and their community suspect, Jewish students find it challenging and often unpleasant, if not actually frightening, to support Israel on many campuses today.

Through research and interviews with campus activists and students from around the country, we are developing a compilation of anti-Israel incidents and descriptions of hostile atmospheres on campuses.

Here are just four recently reported incidents:

Hampshire College, Amherst. Last semester a pro-Israel student was repeatedly verbally harassed by individuals covering their faces. The student was called “baby killer,” “genocide lover,” “apartheid supporter” and “racist.” After receiving an email that read “Make the world a better place and die slow,” she moved off the campus. She has now returned but is still afraid to disclose her identity.

Rutgers University. Last month, a group of pro-Israel students and Holocaust survivors were made to pay an entrance fee to an event that likened Palestinians to Holocaust victims. The event had been advertised as free and open to the public; Palestinian supporters were let in without charge.

Indiana University. Last November, five incidents of anti-Jewish vandalism were reported in one week, including rocks thrown at Chabad and Hillel; sacred Jewish texts placed in various bathrooms and urinated upon; and an information board about Jewish studies programs smashed with a stone.

Carlton University, Ottawa. Last April, a non-Jewish supporter of Israel and his Israeli roommate were attacked by an Arab-speaking mob who screamed anti-Semitic epithets. Nick Bergamini was punched in the head and chased by a man who swung a machete at his head, missing by inches.

Now ask yourself: What would have happened on campus, in the media or in the community if these incidents had been directed at African American, Hispanic or Muslim students?

We have the answer: In October 2009, a noose was found at the University of California-San Diego library. Students occupied the chancellor’s office. The governor, the chancellor and student leaders condemned the incident. The school established a task force on minority faculty recruitment and a commission to address declining African-American enrollment, and vowed to find space for an African- American resource center.

All this – only to discover a few weeks later that the noose was planted by a minority student.

Jewish students and Jewish buildings attacked and intimidated are not a hoax, yet Jewish leaders sit on their hands. No one calls for sensitivity training for Muslim and leftist students about the use of blood libels and anti-Semitism. No one demands students be taught about proper behavior in a civil society or about principles of free speech and academic inquiry. More and more, the ugly aspects of the “Arab street” are coming to campus. With the commendable exception of the Zionist Organization of America – which won civil rights protection for California students under Title 6 – Jewish leaders have remained mostly silent. Without their protest, why should university administrations care?

A Cross-Post-Who Lost the Campus?

This is one of the most eloquent articles I have had the honor to post. Charles Jacobs and Avi Goldwasser have hit the nail on the head when they talk about the disgraceful anti-Semitic situation that exists on our university campuses.

A failure of leadership: Who lost the Campus?

Charles Jacobs

Avi Goldwasser

It was disappointing to read that the David Project – which we co-founded in 2002 in response to the Jewish establishment’s failure to address anti-Israelism on America’s campuses – has decided to join the mainstream (“David Project steers toward the center,” Feb. 4). We are proud of the outstanding accomplishment of the David Project in providing training in Jewish high schools and colleges, but we lament the organization’s retreat from precisely the sort of activism required to change a most serious situation for Jews on campus.

We created the David Project in the face of an upswing in anti-Israel obsession among opinion elites – in the media, in liberal church leadership, but especially among the professoriate and radical student groups. It was becoming clearer each day that the future leaders of America were being indoctrinated on campus to like Israel less and the Palestinian cause more. Jewish students, who were unprepared for the tsunami of anti-Israelism on campus, felt abandoned by the established Jewish organizations – even when they begged for help. The Jewish community did not understand the nature and severity of the problem. Or what to do about it.

The problem, as we saw it, was that Israel’s adversaries were portraying perpetual attacks on Israel as honest criticism – but were in fact carrying out wellplanned campaigns of vilification. These campaigns included shutting down pro-Israel speakers and intimidating Jewish students who dared – even in classroom discussions – to challenge the Palestinian narrative. The campus campaigns were generated, organized and funded by an international left/Muslim coalition loudly proclaiming “principles” of justice and human rights that were selectively applied – against us. This activity is abetted by many in university administrations who marginalize Jewish concerns and exclude Jews from the “sensitivity” and “hate speech” protections offered all other minorities.

In fact, campaigns to delegitimize the Jewish state are impervious to facts, logic and reason; they actually thrive upon the Jewish community’s instinctive response, which is to defend and “explain” Israel’s conduct. This response, best exemplified by Mitchell Bard’s ubiquitous handbook “Myths and Facts,” seeks to disprove each false claim – as though it were simply a matter of ignorance or misunderstanding, a “myth” and not a lie – and to set things straight. This cannot work when your adversaries have no interest in honest discussion. Indeed, each time you prove a claim to be wrong or an overreach, another claim is manufactured. This would have been obvious to Mark Twain, who remarked that “lies can travel around the world before truth puts its pants on.” Yet the Jewish community, despite 30 years of ineffectual attempts, continues to try to put on its pants. For most groups, the most natural and effective response to a campaign of vilification is to announce to the world that you are being vilified, and to turn the finger of accusation back on the defamers. Who are these people who tell lies and photoshop the truth under the banner of journalism and academic freedom and human rights? To win, one has to break the silence about them, the defamers.

Our controversial film “Columbia Unbecoming” broke that silence, dramatically depicting the nature and extent of anti-Israelism on campus. It shocked New York as it exposed how radical professors abuse academic freedom, intimidate Jewish students and suppress honest discourse, while Jewish professors remained silent and the administration indifferent. The Jewish establishment was not happy with our film. They urged quiet, controlled, behind-closed-doors meetings – that lead nowhere. Sadly, the film predicted a growing trend: Now more and more campuses are “unbecoming.” Just ask Jewish students about Israel on campus.

Rather than deal forthrightly with the deteriorating campus scene, Jewish organizations adopted the “Israel beyond the conflict” method. This approach consciously ignores the waves of viciousness aimed at Israel and smilingly tells the world about Israel’s incredible achievements (as though the Nazis hadn’t ever heard of Jewish physicists!). But bragging about scientific and social miracles, while not exposing and countering the liars, can at best leave Israel, in the prescient words of CAMERA’s Andrea Levin, as “the apartheid state with nanotechnology.”

Defense and avoidance are failed strategies, yet they’re the ones adhered to by our conflictaverse Jewish leaders. Conflict with leftists and Muslims can fray the Jewish big tent and liberal sensitivities. Moreover, exposing radical Muslims’ bad behavior can get you sued – or labeled a bigot. We know. We also know what silence brings.

Reluctance to acknowledge a problem is a common institutional reflex: Announcing that there’s a serious problem implies that someone has failed. It also means that now someone has to do something. Meanwhile, all actions are risky – and effective actions can be controversial and may fail. There are so many reasons for Jewish leaders to shield their constituents from what they know: that our community has a deeply serious problem on American campuses that is not going away.

The original mission of the David Project was to change a losing strategy. We had to expose the nature, extent and sources of the assault – and indirectly the failure of the Jewish leadership. We created a new strategy, had significant successes and challenged the establishment.

Despite their stated concerns about the daunting challenges we face, too many Jewish leaders continue to display an unwillingness to speak honestly about the problem, a reluctance – when the times call for courage – to be, in the wonderful words of Facing History and Ourselves, “upstanders” and not bystanders.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A few years ago, I was interviewed for a film by the David Project, a film that somehow never materialized. Many of the problems that Messers Jacobs and Goldwasser describe, I have seen first-hand in my experience at UC-Irvine; radical student groups, radical, hateful speakers, radical faculty, feckless administrators and yes, feckless Jewish leaders.

Make no mistake; the radical left and the pro-Palestinian crowd have found a marriage of convenience and have linked up to bring a highly organized narrative of slander against Israel in order to deligitimize the Jewish state. The focal point is on our university campuses. In the process, they have stoked a world-wide resurgence in anti-Semitism that is being manifested more and more each day. It is disgraceful, and it is compounded by the actions of many radical Jews who are willing to throw their fellow Jews under the bus in furtherance of their far-left ideology.

At the same time, other Jews prefer not to rock the boat. That is precisely the same attitude that helped allow the Holocaust to proceed. It is wrong, and it is disgraceful. There are also the Jews and Christians who are afraid to speak out against the radical Islamists and imams who are openly stoking Jew-hatred-lest they themselves be labeled bigots and Islamophobes.

Put it all together and what you have is a recipe for the next Holocaust.

The Oscars Are On?

"Fousesquawk! Over here!"

Late this afternoon, I stopped at one of my favorite lemonade stands, and while I was enjoying my lemonade and cookies, there on the TV screen in front of me-instead of a hockey game- was The Oscars.

"Ah wunnerful ah wunnerful, ah!"

Well, no actually. I would have preferred a hockey game. I had no idea it was on tonight. Anyway, here I am at the computer while my wife watches this lollapaloosa extravanganza of the beautiful and self-absorbed people. While sipping my lemonade, however, I did get to watch one of those professional brown-nosers that stand by the red carpet and ask inane questions of the glamorous stars like, "What are you weariing tonight, Dear?"

"Oh well, it's the latest from Pierre LaFouffe, do you like it?"

"Stunning, Darling. Where's the bra?"

"Oh, my husband is wearing it tonight."

No, it wasn't Pat O'Brien (the announcer I mean). I heard he was on an important call.

I wonder what Martin Sheen's favorite son, Charlie is wearing tonight. Hopefully, he will have pants on. (Don't forget the belt, Charlie). If my brother were Charlie Sheen, I'd change my name to something like Emilio Esteban. (I'd still hang out with him though, heh heh.)

Is it just me, or didn't they just have one of these bonanzas, the Golden Globe or the People's Choice or Emmy's? I mean how many of these trinkets can they hand out to each other?

Only two things are sure at the Oscar's like death and (huge) taxes; someone will make an ass out of himself, herself or itself at the microphone, and the camera will catch some young airhead actress "fighting back" tears as someone talks about giraffes starving in Africa, or some such rot.

That's right.

Enough about these bozos. Are the Penguins on tonight?

Wrong penguin.

British Rapper Lowkey "Sings" About America in America

Reference is made to my last posting about the hip hop event scheduled at UC Santa Cruz (America's Wackiest University) on March 2 sponsored by the Committee for Justice in Palestine. One of the performers is someone named Lowkey (Kareem Dennis), a British-Iraqi rapper whose works tend to be pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel and anti-American.. The same group of performers is schedulted to appear March 1, at UC-Irvine-sponsored by the Students for Justice in Palestine.

Here are the lyrics from Lowkey's hit entitled, Obama-Nation.

Lowkey – Obama Nation (Official Lyrics)

[Intro]

This track is not an attack upon the American people,

It’s an attack upon the system within which they live.

Since 1945 the United States has attempted to overthrow more than 50 foreign governments,

In the process the US has caused the end of life for several million people,

And condemned many millions more to a life of agony and despair.

[Verse 1]

The strength of your dreaming prevents you from reason,

The American dream only makes sense if you’re sleeping,

It’s just a cruel fantasy; their politics took my voice away,

But their music gave it back to me,

The land where the lumpen are consumed by consumption,

Killing themselves to shovel down food in abundance,

I guess a rapper from Britain is a rare voice,

America is capitalism on steroids,

Natives kept in casinos and reservations,

Displaced slaves never given reparations,

Take everything from Native Americans,

And wonder why i call it the racist experiment,

Afraid of your melanin, the same as it’s ever been,

That aint gonna change with the race of the president,

I see imperialism under your skin tone,

You could call it Christopher Columbus syndrome.

[Chorus 2x]

Is it Obama’s nation? Or an abomination?

Is it Obama’s nation? Or an abomination?

Is it Obama’s nation? Or an abomination?

Doesn’t make any difference when they bomb your nation.

Oh say can you see by the dawn’s early light,

What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming,

Whose broad stripes and bright stars through perilous fight,

For the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming.

[Verse 2]

The world’s entertainer, the world’s devastator,

From Venezuela, to Mesopotamia,

Your cameras lie, cause they have to hide the savage crimes,

Committed on leaders that happen to try and nationalize,

Eating competitions? while the worlds been starving,

Beat up communism with the help of Bin Laden,

Where would your war of terror be without that man,

Every day you create more Nidal Hassan’s,

Kill a man from the military, you’re a weirdo,

But kill a wog from the Middle East you’re a hero,

Your country is causing screams that never reach your ear holes,

America inflicted a million Ground Zero’s,

Follow the dollar and swallow your humanity,

Soldier’s committing savagery you never even have to see,

Those mad at me, writing emails angrily,

I’m not anti-America, America is anti-me!

[Chorus 2x]

Is it Obama’s nation? Or an abomination?

Is it Obama’s nation? Or an abomination?

Is it Obama’s nation? Or an abomination?

Doesn’t make any difference when they bomb your nation.

And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,

Gave proof through the night, that our flag was still there,

Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave,

For the land of the free and the home of the brave,

[Verse 3]

I don’t care if him and Cheney are long lost relations,

What matters more is the policies, I lost my patience,

Stop debating bringing race into the conversation,

Occupation and cooperation equals profit making,

It’s over; people wake up from the dream now,

Nobel peace prize, Jay Z on speed-dial,

It’s the substance within, not the colour of your skin,

Are you the puppeteer or the puppet on the string?,

So many believed it was instantly gonna’ change,

There was still Dennis Ross, Brzezinski and Robert Gates,

What happened to Chas freeman? (AIPAC),

What happened to Tristan Anderson?,

It’s a machine that keeps that man breathing,

I have the heart to say what all the other rappers aren’t,

Words like Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan,

The wars on, and you morons were all wrong,

I call Obama a bomber cause those are your bombs.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Am I offended? You bet. Let's put this in perspective. This guy is a Brit, not an American. I do not expect any loyalty from him to my country.

Is this an example of free and constitionally-protected free speech in America? Yes, absolutely, unequivocally and all-day long.

But what gets my jingoistic juices flowing is that this puke can come here, stand on our soil, trash our country, our president, our military, and our national anthym. On our own soil.

And he is sponsored by a group of dopey, brain-washed American college students to boot.

What is it about (once) Great Britain that continually sends pukes like Dennis, Ben White, George Galloway and so many other clowns to our country to tell us how screwed up we are? Look at their own country. Now he have that ibn sharmota Anjem Choudary coming to protest in favor of sharia in front of the White House, for God's sake!

But let the show go on. I won't be there because I can't stand hip hop nor do I consider it music. I just hope that the majority of students who pass by this monstrosity and hear the anti-American lyrics stop and think about who is putting it on.

And draw the obvious conclusions.

Olive Tree Initiative at UC Santa Cruz

On March 2, the UC Santa Cruz (America's Wackiest University)  Committee for Justice in Palestine is hosting a hip-hop event featuring among others, a British rapper named Lowkey (true name Kareem Dennis). Below is the Facebook announcement. If you go to the text and click "see more", you will come to a page that informs you that (anti-Israel) Jewish Voice for Peace and the Olive Tree Initiative ("and other human rights organizations") will have information tables at the event.

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=198159456865294

The performers.

Lowkey is more than just a rapper and pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel  activist. Much of his work denounces our country as well. Here is what Nolan Chart and The Blaze have to say about Lowkey.

http://www.nolanchart.com/article8348.html

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/meet-the-british-rapper-who-sings-anti-american-and-anti-israeli-anthems/

Another featured performer, Shadia Mansour, is a British-Palestinian rapper, who performs on the West Bank. Here is an article about her by BBC.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-11215298

Also appearing is British activist Jody McIntyre. Below is an article written by McIntyre for the Independent (UK):

http://blogs.independent.co.uk/2010/12/15/jody-mcintyre-who%E2%80%99s-apathetic-now/

Then there is "Logic", another rapper "on the rise" who has teamed up with Lowkey on recordings.

So what does this all mean? For those of you unfamiliar with the Olive Tree Initiative (OTI), this is a group formed a couple of years back at UC-Irvine. It sends groups of UC students to the West Bank and Israel to meet and interact with both pro-and anti-Israeli figures and organizations. The stated intent is to expose Jewish, Muslim and other students to both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In Orange County, the project has received funding (for travel of Jewish students) from the Rose Project, which, in turn, was created by the Orange County Jewish Federation. They maintain that sending Jewish students on these trips better equips them to deal with the anti-Israel arguments as they return home and defend Israel against her detractors. The Olive Tree Initiative, which has the firm support of the University of California and its satellite campuses, has now spread to other UC campuses.

Yet many in the Jewish community are troubled by some of the pro-Palestinian figures who are involved in the itinerary. Several of these figures appear to have ties to the virulently anti-Israel International Solidarity Movement (ISM), whose program and goal is the deligitimization of Israel. (And the ISM may be the very least of their troubling associations.)  For example, George S. Rishmawi, who lives in the West Bank and spoke recently at UC-Irvine, is a popular contact for OTI. He was a co-founder of ISM.

Now it appears that something else is emerging in connection with OTI on several campuses. There appears to be a surprising relationship between OTI and the Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), known as Committee for Justice in Palestine at Santa Cruz. In the case of Santa Cruz, why is OTI being labeled as a "human rights" organization? And does their participation in this event imply that they as an organization are supportive of the Palestinian cause, when their announced policy is to be open to both sides? SJP makes no pretence of being open to both sides. They are fervently pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel.

Let me also be clear here; the SJP is a legal, recognized student organization on many US campuses. If a student who is involved in OTI truly believes in the Palestinian cause according to his or her own conscience, be he/she Christian, Muslim, Jew, or otherwise, that is a decision for the individual to make.

On the other hand, the OTI sells itself to donors as an entity where students of all religious persuasions can be exposed to both sides of the issue and hopefully calm down the rhetoric on campus-a worthy goal. The problem is that if OTI is, indeed, a participant in this event at Santa Cruz hosted by the Committee for Justice in Palestine ( to say nothing about the participation of Jewish Voice for Peace), even more questions have to be asked about the relationship between these two entities and the true balance of the OTI. Anyone who supports Israel and donates to OTI has the right to have this matter clarified.

The Anti-Semitism in France

Nidra Poller has written a disturbing article in the Middle East Quarterly (Middle East Forum)  about the rise of crime and anti-Semitism in France.

http://www.meforum.org/2822/french-intifada

The Swedish blog, Jihad i Malmo (Jihad in Malmo) has also published this report under the title En Fransk Intifada. ( A French Intifada).

Protesters Chant, "British Troops, Burn in Hell"

Protesters burning a poppy at a Muslims against Remembrance Day protest on November 11 last year

Two British Muslims have gone on trial near London for desecrating last November's 2-minute moment of silence on Armistice Day. These two also burned simulated  poppies during the commemoration. (The poppy has symbolic meaning for the British war dead). The defendant's  supporters (above) came out once again to chant hatred against British soldiers and British society. Below is a report from the Daily Mail.

What an outrage. How can anyone articulate in words just how horrific this is? It is easy to say, "Deport the bastards!" Most all of them, however, are British citizens-even British-born.

If I were a Brit and witnessed this insult to our war dead and our country, I don't know how I would respond. Most of these punks are of Pakistani or Indian descent. Yet, there is an Arabic word I learned once while in DEA. One night in Los Angeles, we arrested a group of Lebanese and Syrian heroin smugglers at a hotel in the airport area. My partner was an agent who had been stationed in the Middle East with DEA (Turkey and Lebanon). He had actually been kidnapped by the PLO in Lebanon back in the 1970s. They thought he was a CIA agent. After a week of beatings, they finally decided he was telling the truth-that he was DEA-not CIA. They let him go.

As we were putting the guys up against the wall, one of them put up some resistance with my partner who "firmly planted him back on the wall". As he did so, he called him a name in Arabic.

Later, I asked him what the term meant, and he told me. I apologize for the extensive digression, but I think the only thing I could say if I were there in Britain would be.....

"Sharmota!" ("Ibn sharmota" might be more accurate. I'll let you look it up.)

I'm sure they would understand it.

Why Has Obama Been So Slow on Libya?

When [Obama's] enemies find out that in 1984 I went to Tripoli to visit [Gadhafi] with Farrakhan, a lot of his Jewish support will dry up quicker than a snowball in hell,”-Rev. Jeremiah Wright 2008

When the UN Security Council met this week on Libya, where was our US Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice? Answer: In Capetown, South Africa attending some environmental conference. Yet, days earlier when casting the (traditional) US veto against a UN resolution condemning Israeli settlements, Rice personally softened the blow by verbally denouncing Israel for those settlements.

Only today, in a telephone call with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Obama has finally said that Qaddafi must go. This just after US civilians were ferried out of Libya to Malta. He has taken sustained criticism in recent days for his apparent lack of stand against Qaddafi in the midst of all the violence. If you want to believe the worst, you might go to the opening quote of this short essay. Beyond the trip to Libya in 1984 by Jeremiah Wright and Louis Farrakhan, there has been a much deeper relationship between Farrakhan and Qaddafi since, which includes financial support by Libya to the Nation of Islam.

Or if you want to believe the best, perhaps the President was merely waiting until the Americans were evacuated out of Libya before they could be taken hostage.

Nigel Farage's Greatest Hits- 25 November 2009

British EU delegate Nigel Farage is in rare form as he lets his colleagues have it again in Strasbourg on November 25, 2009. This time, his targets are the Lisbon Treaty, the EU President Herman van Rompuy (The Belgian Waffler) and fellow British member the Baroness Kathy Ashton. Enjoy.

Qaradawi's Speech in Cairo

The American Thinker has an important article by Andrew G. Boston regarding Yusuf al Qaradawi's appearance in Cairo, which will certainly rain on the parade of folks like the NYT's David Kirkpatrick and others who think democracy is on the way to Egypt,

http://www.americanthinker.com/2011/02/qaradawi_and_the_treason_of_th.html

Siraj Wahhaj at UCF

Knight News.com has a report on last night's appearance by Siraj Wahhaj at the University of Central Florida.

http://knightnews.com/2011/02/ucf-assigns-police-to-protect-imam-regulate-media-protesters/

It appears that Wahhaj had on his moderate face last night since he knew he was speaking to a mixed audience. During the Q and A, he stated that in a non-Islamic country, Shariah law would not be applicable. (Of course, the first step would be to change a non-Islamic country into an Islamic country.)  Apparently, Wahhaj left his more radical comments to other events when he doesn't have to worry about non-Muslims being present. In more unguarded moments, he has been known to loudly tell his audiences not to take non-Muslims for friends. He has also been quoted as telling his followers to go into the prisons and convert African-Americans to Islam so they can come back to the inner cities and carry out jihad with Uzis. And of course, there is that little matter back in 1993 when he was mentioned as an unindicted possible co-conspirator in the World Trade Center bombing by US Attorney Mary Jo White. There is also that little relationship he had with Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman (The infamous Blind Shiekh), for who he testified as a character witness.

In time, democracy will crumble, and there will be nothing, and the only thing that will remain will be Islam." -Wahhaj (The Rant)

"A little over a year later, addressing an audience of New Jersey Muslims, the same Wahaj articulated a rather different vision from his mild and moderate invocation in the House. If only Muslims were more clever politically, he told his New Jersey listeners, they could take over the United States and replace its constitutional government with a caliphate. "If we were united and strong, we'd elect our own emir [leader] and give allegiance to him. . . . [T]ake my word, if 6-8 million Muslims unite in America, the country will come to us." In 1995, Wahaj served as a character witness for Omar Abdel Rahman in the trial that found that blind sheikh guilty of conspiracy to overthrow the government of the United States. More alarming still, the U.S. attorney for New York listed Wahaj as one of the "unindicted persons who may be alleged as co-conspirators" in the sheikh's case."

-Daniel Pipes

In addition, Creeping Sharia has an audio of a Wahhaj speech:

http://creepingsharia.wordpress.com/2011/01/15/ground-zero-mosque-imam-replaced-by-radical-linked-imam/

I guess Wahhaj didn't say any of those things last night to his college audience. There seems to be two sets of speeches that Wahhaj gives, one to the mixed audiences and one for his mosque.

(David Gaubatz, the author of Muslim Mafia, has an audio of Wahhaj explaining to his followers why they should not take Christians and Jews as close friends. I have chosen not to post it here because I don't care for the accompaning imagery. You can find it easily yourselves.)

It also appeared that the campus police were enforcing who could record the event as described in the linked article. In spite of that, a wonderful time was had by all as the gullible UCF students learned what a moderate and kindly old grandfather Wahhaj is. And why not? They paid for it out of their school fees.

The Jerry Springer Show Goes International

Pakistan: "Jer-ry, Jer-ry, Jer-ry!"

In just the latest example of America exporting its culture around the world, even the Jerry Springer Show has achieved widespread popularity overseas.

Tunisia: "Jer-ry, Jer-ry, Jer-ry!"

Algeria: "Jer-ry, Jer-ry, Jer-ry!"

Image: Opposition supporters carry a soldier at the frontline near Tahrir Square in Cairo
Egypt- "Jer-ry, Jer-ry, Jer-ry!"

Libya: "Jer-ry, Jer-ry, Jer-ry!"

UK: "Jer-ry, Jer-ry, Jer-ry!"

But lest you think Jerry has been forgotten at home......

Wisconsin- "Jer-ry, Jer-ry, Jer-ry!"

"God. What have I done?"

The New York Times Article on Yusuf al Qaradawi

The New York Times has cemented its reputation as having slid from a great newspaper to little more than a slanted, liberal fishwrap worthy of little more than a place to lay your kitty litter. Check out this laudatory article by David Kirkpatrick on Yusuf al Qaradawi's speech in Cairo.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/19/world/middleeast/19egypt.html?_r=1

"Sheik Qaradawi, a popular television cleric whose program reaches an audience of tens of millions worldwide, addressed a rapt audience of more than a million Egyptians gathered in Tahrir Square to celebrate the uprising and honor those who died. "

Lest you think Qaradawi is an Arab version of Jon Stewart or Joel Osteen, click below.

http://garyfouse.blogspot.com/2011/01/yusuf-al-qaradawis-statement-of.html

Mr Kirkpatrick continues:

"On Friday, he struck themes of democracy and pluralism, long hallmarks of his writing and preaching. He began his sermon by saying that he was discarding the customary opening “Oh Muslims,” in favor of “Oh Muslims and Copts,” referring to Egypt’s Coptic Christian minority. He praised Muslims and Christians for standing together in Egypt’s revolution and even lauded the Coptic Christian “martyrs” who once fought the Romans and Byzantines. “I invite you to bow down in prayer together,” he said."

Yes, folks. David Kirkpatrick has wrapped this lunatic in white satin-ignoring the fact that Qaradawi has called the Holocaust, "divine punishment on the Jews". This is a man who openly talks about that great day of judgement and how we wants to die fighting the infidels and kill that last Jew hiding behind the talking tree.

Belgium's Vote for LIbya on the UN Human Rights Council

That's right, folks. In this article by the Brussels Journal, Belgium Foreign Minister Steven Vanackere explains Belgium's decision to vote for Libya to sit on the UN Human Rights Council.

http://www.brusselsjournal.com/node/4684

Can't make this stuff up, folks. By this reasoning, Belgium would have voted for Nazi Germany to sit on such a council so that "they may be exposed to reason and differing opinions" and all that rot.

Sure did work, didn't it?

Protest Planned at University of Central Florida Against Siraj Wahhaj

Siraj Wahhaj

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/02/25/controversial-imam-speak-university-central-florida/

Siraj Wahhaj, fresh off his big appearance at Yorba Linda, is speaking at the University of Central Florida tonight as part of Islam Awareness Month. Wahhaj, who was bosom buddies with the blind terrorist, Omar Abdel Rahman, was also a suspect in the aftermath of the 1993 Twin Towers bombing. (I hope everyone is aware of that.) Protests will be held by people who are indeed aware of that, as well as his statements about training people in prison to convert to Islam so they can come back and carry out jihad in the cities with uzis and all that inspirational stuff.

Of course, UCF has already set the guidelines for those who might be opposed to Wahhaj. Even so much as ask a critical question and the SA boys (otherwise known as the campus police) will drag your ass right out of the room as they did this week to Randy McDaniels. I would invite the reader to compare the video of McDaniels' treatment at UCF with that of the so-called "Irvine 11" at UC-Irvine last February when they disrupted the speech by the Israeli ambassador to the US. After standing and screaming at the ambassador, they were escorted out of the room by campus cops who were standing by as if it were a pre-rehearsed wedding ceremony.

My advice to tonight's protesters? Keep it orderly and lawful. Let the other side show the public that they really are the bad guys. But let them know that their plans for America will never take fruit.

Never.

Hate Week at UCLA

Students for Justice in Palestine is holding their annual hate week at UCLA along with the Muslim Students Association. Donald Douglas of American Power is covering the event and has a great report, which I am cross-posting.

http://americanpowerblog.blogspot.com/2011/02/israeli-apartheid-week-students-for.html

I will have more to say about the mad-hatters at UCLA in a future post.

University of Central Florida Campus Cops Drag a Questioner Away Because of His Question

Hat tip to American Power, from which this is cross-posted

In the below clip, Randy McDaniels of ACT for America attended an Islamic event at the University of Central Florida. When he asked the panelists about a passage in the Qur'an, look what happens.

http://americanpowerblog.blogspot.com/2011/02/no-questions-allowed-islamic-terrorism.html

Keep in mind that Mr McDaniels was not disruptive. He merely asked a panelist about whether he supported a passage in the Qur'an. At this point, the campus police dragged him out-physically.

Where is the Campus Advocacy for the Good Guys?

In the midst of all the reporting I do on the trash that goes on in our universities, one might wonder what the good guys are up in terms of having positive events that celebrate the US-and Israel for that matter (since Israel comes in for most of the abuse).

What is Anteaters for Israel up to these days? A few days ago, I went to their website and there are no new entries since September. The last entry is something about Fidel Castro saying that Israel has a right to exist. Is it possible that pro-Israel groups have been beaten down by the far-left activism and the constant anti-Israel drumbeat of the Muslim Student Union and their compadres in the Students for Justice in Palestine? I guess I should mention that every year they have I-Week, which is indeed, devoted to celebrating Israel. What do they do during I-Week? Well, they sell cookies and put up signs telling people that Israel did interesting things like inventing the cell phone and all that. They also smoke hookas. The best part is the belly-dancing-not to be missed. It's a nice contrast to the Israel Apartheid Week put on by the Muslim Student Union with all their fire-breathing speakers that call for the death of Israel and all that stuff. If you read this blog, you know all about that. Yet, aside from that, AFI seems pretty laid back.

Ditto for UCI's College Republicans. If you go to their website, you will see that their last entry was April of 2009. Whatever happened to them? Have they been beaten down?

Where are the pro-American events on college campuses? It seems everybody from faculty on down to students is afraid to put on something positive about America let alone Israel. One can only conclude they don't want to. Instead, what we see are programs like this supposedly even-handed Olive Tree Initiative, that is spreading from UC-Irvine to the other UC campuses. They insist it is designed to expose Jewish, Muslim and other students to both sides of the Israel-Palestine conflict. Their critics point to the activist pro-Palestinian figures in the Mideast who are involved and say the OTI is a wolf in sheep's clothing. That brings me to the "Is it True?" question of the day:

Is it true that the founder of an Olive Tree Initiative chapter at a UC campus is also a member of Students for Justice in Palestine, a virulently anti-Israel organization?

Just a question. I am sure that the Orange County Jewish Federation and the Rose Project (a Federation creation which funds the travel for Jewish OTI members) will check into this and get back to us.

Anyway, it sure would be nice if some student group held an event and brought in well-known people who will tell their audiences of the good things about America-and Israel. Where do we hear speakers on US university campuses (and classrooms) telling their students that yes- America is a great country, one that does deserve their love and loyalty?

I know. I know. That all went the way of the argyle sweater.

The Tide Turns on Norman Finkelstein at UC-Irvine

Last May, that great independent scholar with a PhD from Princeton, Norman Finkelstein came to speak at UC Irvine as part of Israel Apartheid Week. His theme was "The tides are changing".

Indeed.

This time, the tides turned on Normie as about 200-300 community members came out to hear him drone on with his old story about how bad Israel is (Norm is a one-trick pony). Suffice to say, unlike the young students, these folks were not buying it. Norm knew he had opposition when he stepped to the mike. Listen in his introduction as he insults the audience by comparing them to a Saturday night bingo crowd.

Note: I suggest you focus on parts 1, 2, 5 and 6. If you want to punish yourself by listening to the entire speech, be my guest. The last two parts are the Q and A, where things get interesting.

Meanwhile, yours truly pays rapt attention to Norm's words.

In the below section, Normie takes questions. I ask him if he will sign an open letter by some 60 Jewish teachers at UCI asking for an end to hate speech at the MSU events. Watch as he worms out of it by going on a long monologue about Richard Goldstone.

Exasperated, I go looking for Richard Goldstone to see if HE will sign the letter.

Then things get reaaaaly good as Norm takes exception to a student calling him "Norm". That sets off a Jewish woman who goes on a tirade and has to be restrained from charging the podium. She accuses the ever-gallant Norm of calling her "a cow".

All in all, Finkelstein had a bad day at UC-Irvine. Hopefully, he will be back for more punishment this coming May.
Amazing likeness, don't you think?

Kauft Nicht Bei Juden* Move in Montreal

* Don't buy from Jews- From the Nazi boycott of Jewish stores in April 1933

In April of 1933, a few months from taking power, the Nazis held a one-day boycott of Jewish-owned stores in Germany in which they sent their brown-shirted SA thugs to stand in front of stores with signs urging Germans not to buy from Jewish stores. Now, in Montreal, a similar move is under way.

Jerome Gordon in New English Review Writes About Conflicts Within the Jewish Community

Jerome Gordon, editor-in-chief of the New English Review, has written a piece which I am cross-posting. It concerns an issue of vital importance, the fragmentation of the Jewish community when it comes to the topics of Israel and anti-Semitism. Gordon draws on three examples, Boston, the UK and Orange County, California.

Obama and the Unions

Think about what the teacher unions in Wisconsin are doing. Think about what the teacher and government worker unions have done to California.

Any questions?

Anti-Israel Roadshow Hits Oakland

Hat tip to Pro Israel Bay Bloggers

The traveling roadshow called "Never again for anyone", which made headlines recently at Rutgers University, was in Oakland last week at a Christian church no less.

http://proisraelbaybloggers.blogspot.com/2011/02/first-presbyterian-church-of-oakland_14.html

Here is the ad for the event:

http://norcalsocialism.org/oakland-feb17-never-again-for-anyone-hajo-meyer

Hosted by the International Socialist Organization (Bay area)

(For all you UC Santa Cruz Community Studies majors-those are what we used to call "Commies".)

Save your cards and letters.

So let me make sure I have this right. The featured speaker was a Holocaust survivor named Hajo Meyer, who not only hates Israel, but spits on the idea of a Jewish civilization? He is endorsed by David Duke!!?? If he is Jewish (I am assuming that), why does he hate his own people so much? The appearance at DePaul on February 4 is quite troubling. Note the usual suspects; Hatem Bazian, professor at UC Berzerkley and the Students for Justice in Palestine. (Their idea of justice in Palestine is the elimination of the Jewish state.)

Make no mistake; these organizations and their events are nothing less than stoking hatred in the US against Israel. The side effect is a rise in anti-Semitism. And where is the focal point? Mostly in the universities-thanks to "professors" like Hatem Bazian.

And now even in churches. What in the world is this pastor doing engaging himself in international politics on an issue that is costing lives virtually everyday. My old man (may he rest in peace) had a phrase for so-called Christians like this Oakland pastor.

"He doesn't know whether Jesus was hung or shot in a pool hall."

(Please forgive me.)

The Administration's Timid Response on Libya

Isn't it amazing to see and hear the timid statements coming out of Washington as the Libyan strongman Muammar Gaddafi orders his goons to slaughter protesters?

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/02/22/administration-urged-squeez-libya-concrete-action/

Now I realize that we have to be verrrrry careful about not being perceived as meddling in the affairs of any Middle Eastern nation. I get that. I also realize that the Obama administration has its hands full scolding Israel at the UN for their settlements (trying to strike a balance with their veto of  a UN resolution).

But for crying out loud; this is the bastard that had Pan Am 103 brought down over Lockerbie, Scotland among many other transgressions. So if Obama, Clinton or PJ Crowley are going to measure their words, I won't. Here goes.

News alert: "Fousesquawk today called on the Libyan people to storm the presidential palace, seize Gaddafi and tear him limb from limb."

"I'll drink to that."

Now let's go get a beer.

More Pro-Palestinian Thuggery in Scotland

Well, I see the Students for Justice in Palestine have a chapter in Scotland. They recently shut down a talk by an Israeli official at Edinburgh University. So much for freedom of speech.

Doesn't this kind of indicate who the good guys are and who the bad guys are?

"Uhhhh.....yeaaaah."

Yeah!

Columbia University- Building the leaders of tomorrow

CLASH: Veteran Anthony Maschek (above, with fiancée Angela O'Neill) faced heckling from fellow Columbia students over ROTC (below).

Anthony Maschek- wounded veteran jeered by Columbia's students (NY Post)

Tuesday, an Iraqi war veteran and purple heart recipient, Anthony Maschek, spoke at a town hall meeting at Columbia University. He was heckled, jeered and called a "racist' by the despicable students who attended.

The New York Post has the sordid story.

http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/manhattan/hero_unwelcome_Zi3u1fwtRpo87vXAiAQfSN

This is beyond disgusting. What kind of mental institution is President Lee Bollinger running at Columbia? This takes us back to the Viet Nam era when privileged college students would spit on returning war veterans.

And where is the statement from Bollinger? Here's his webpage at Columbia. I don't see anything here. Even Ahmadinejad didn't get as bad a reception when he came to Columbia.

How to Find Bin Laden--Jeff Halper's Spectral Dust

Jeff Halper

Recently I wrote a piece on the speaking visit to UC-Irvine of that renowned anthropology professor from Israel, Jeff Halper. It has gotten me to thinking that just maybe Professor Halper has the secret to finding and killing Osama Bin Laden.

Spectral dust.

That's right, folks. It all makes perfect sense. You see, Professor Halper, who is an American-born guy who immigrated to Israel 40 years ago and became an Israeli citizen, now goes around trhe world telling eager university audiences what an evil country Israel is and all the terrible things they do to the Palestinian people and all the secret weapons they have developed.........

But I digress.

Let me get straight to the point; Professor Halper, who is also the originator of the world-famous theory of the Core and the Gap, told us at UCI that the Israelis have developed a secret weapon called spectral dust. You see, each grain of this dust, when spread over areas of land acts as a sensor.

According to Halper, when just one of these sensors is programmed with an individual's DNA, it can actually track, locate and kill the person in question-in this case, Osama Bin Laden.

So here's the plan; we locate one of Bin Laden's direct line female relatives who has his DNA (or is it male relatives?), we attach that DNA to the spectral dust, and we spread it over all of Waziristan. In no time at all, the dust finds Osama and does him in.

President Obama will be so happy.

George Galloway will be so sad.

To be sure, there will be retributions.

Professor Halper, if you are reading this, call me.
