Think You're Going to Keep Your Health Insurance? Think Again
"Whadda'ya mean ya don't wanna join our insurance plan?"
How many times have we heard President Obama assure us that if we are happy with the health insurance we have, we can keep it? For the time being, perhaps. But if this Democrat health care plan takes effect, you won't have it for long.
One aspect of the bill that is under consideration is that if and when it takes effect, it will not be permitted for anyone to purchase health insurance from any other source but the government plan. What does that mean? It means that the health insurance plan you currently have and want to keep won't be able to sign up new customers. It means they cannot compete with the government plan. It means they will soon go out of business. Then what do you do? You have two choices; pay a tax penalty for not having health insurance or you sign up with the government plan.
This appears on page 16 of the plan under the heading of "Protecting The Choice To Keep Current Coverage," the "Limitation On New Enrollment" section of the bill clearly states:
"Except as provided in this paragraph, the individual health insurance issuer offering such coverage does not enroll any individual in such coverage if the first effective date of coverage is on or after the first day" of the year the legislation becomes law."
It means that if you keep your own insurance, you can't change it to another private insurance. If you leave your employment, with its insurance plan, to work for yourself, as millions do annually, you can't enroll with another private plan.
How will anyone compete with the new Democrat health plan? Essentially, private companies are going to be unable to sign up new customers.
This is not about providing health care to every American. This is about government power, pure and simple.
Ask yourself why Obama and the Democrats are in such a rush to pass this bill. It is because they want to get it through before too many Americans become educated as to what this bill will entail. Already, Obama has seen his approval ratings drop. More and more Americans are expressing doubt about the big government takeover in the economy, the auto industry, the banks and health care. Obama needs to get this bill passed pronto while he still has political capital to spend. Today the head of the Congressional Budget Office testified before Congress that the health care bill won't save money, rather it will cost money. The longer this process takes, the more the public learns about it, the less they like it. My question is-why the rush over a change in our country that will have such a profound effect?
This bill is a disaster that will take us much farther down the road to socialism, if not downright Marxism.
What do you do if you cannot afford the Government Health Insurance? Since when has anything the Government run been cheap?
