Today's Train Wreck in the White House

I just finished watching the entire (replay) of the Oval Office meeting between Ukrainian President Zelenskiyy. President Trump, and Vice President Vance. All sides can agree that it was a train wreck and made much worse by the fact that it played out in front of the media. It lasted 50 minutes and was going just fine until the 42-minute mark when Vance began berating the Ukrainian president over the question of American diplomacy over the years of Russian aggression against Ukraine. Vance was no doubt irked by Zelinskiyy's question to him about (American) diplomacy. From there everything went downhill. Trump jumped in and poured gasoline on the fire in his own inimitable manner. After it was over, Zelenskii and his delegation were essentially kicked out of the White House.

Now we have the spectacle of this mess being played out before the world. In Russia, Putin must be laughing his butt off.

The media is treating this as would be predicted. CNN is blaming Trump, and Fox is taking Trump's side. Fox's talking heads are saying that Zelenskiyy must apologize.

The US-Ukraine relationship in the face of Russian aggression is complicated, and certainly, Ukraine owes much to the US for its support. Whatever differences the two sides have, the discussion should have taken place behind closed doors and not in front of the press and the world. If Zelenskiyy made comments they disagreed with, they should have held their fire until the press was gone. You don't berate the leader of a friendly government in front of the press.

I blame Vance for overreacting to Zelinskiyy's remarks and escalating the exchange. I also blame Trump for escalating the situation instead of de-escalating it. Trump and Vance should not have berated Zelenskiyy publicly in this manner. Rather than moving toward a peace deal and the US and Ukraine signing a win-win deal on Ukrainian minerals, everything has blown up. It is an embarrassment.

I voted three times for President Trump, and up to now, I was impressed with JD Vance. Just prior to witnessing this press conference, I had posted an article complimenting Trump on his diplomacy for helping bring about the extradition of Mexican drug lord, Rafael Caro-Quintero, and others to the US from Mexico. Now I am sitting here questioning the diplomacy of the administration I voted for. Don't get me wrong. I will never regret voting against Kamala Harris, but if I am to maintain any credibility on this site, I have to call it as I see it. This is terrible. Just plain terrible.

You can watch the entire news conference here (The Hill).

Remembering Blaze Bernstein

In January 2018, Blaze Bernstein, a 19-year-old college student, was stabbed to death in Borrego Park, Foothill Ranch (Orange Country), California. His killer was Samuel Woodward, a member of a neo-Nazi group called the Atomwaffen Division, who was 21 at the time of the murder. Since Blaze was both gay and Jewish, Woodward was charged with both murder and a hate crime enhancement. He was convicted and is now serving a life sentence in prison without parole.

Yesterday afternoon, I happened to be at Borrego Park for the first time for my grandson's soccer practice. During the practice, my daughter led me to the spot where Blaze's body was found back in 2018. It is now a memorial to  Blaze and is covered with stones left by people simply wishing to pay their respects. It is a Jewish tradition to lay a stone on a Jewish grave as a sign of love and respect.

As you can see from the photos I took, most of the stones left had been decorated or painted prior to bringing them to the site. Not being prepared, I found a stone in the bushes and placed it among all the others.

My humble stone in the middle

May his memory be a blessing.

Mexico Extradites Rafael Caro-Quintero to US

DEA Special Agent Enrique Camarena

Caro-Quintero in custody on US soil

Yesterday, 40 years after he led the kidnapping, torture, and murder of US Drug Enforcement Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena and Alfredo Zavala, a Mexican national who worked with Camarena, in Guadalajara, Mexican drug kingpin, Rafael Caro-Quintero, and 28 other Mexican major criminals wanted in the US, were extradited to our country. The official statement of Attorney General Pam Bondi can be read here. A short video of Caro-Quintero's arrival. on US soil can be viewed here.

This is a great day for DEA and the Camarena family. I actually never thought I would live to see this day. While DEA has suffered more than its share of agents killed in the line of duty, the circumstances surrounding his gruesome death made it particularly personal for the entire DEA family, including those, like myself who never met Kiki, and including today's generation of DEA personnel, most if not all of whom, who were not yet hired - or even born-when the terrible incident took place.

Though I don't know the exact details surrounding the agreement by Mexico to hand over Caro-Quintero and 28 other major criminals, I must give much credit to President Trump for making this a priority in his negotiations with Mexican President Claudia Scheinbaum, who also recently became president of her country.

*Update: I have learned from multiple sources in the DEA retiree grapevine, that upon arrival in the US, Caro-Quintero was wearing the handcuffs that had belonged to Agent Camarena. Poetic justice.

Italy: Appeals Court Hearing in Saman Abbas "Honor Killing" Case

Saman Abbas

We have been covering the story of Saman Abbas, the 18-year-old Pakistani girl who was the victim of an "honor killing" by her family in Italy in 2021. The last person to be arrested was the mother, Nazia Shaheen, who was extradited back to Italy from Pakistan. She had already been convicted and sentenced to life in prison in absentia.

Now an appeals process is underway in Bologna. Nazia Shaheen has made her first appearance in court as part of this proceeding. The below article from Gazzetta di Parma is translated by Fousesquawk.

Bologna

Murder of Saman, appeal proceedings: The mother, Nazia Shaheen in court for the first time after extradition

She crosses the courtyard of the appeals court of Bologna, her head bowed, escorted by penitentiary police, and besieged by TV cameras and photographers. Nazia Shaheen, the mother of Saman Abbas, arrives for the first time in a courtroom after extradition from Pakistan last August and remains seated for a long time with her head down, with her hands over her face, even when she can see the husband, Shabbar Abbas, after a long time, enter the Bachelet courtroom and take his place in the cage opposite hers. The mother of Saman is dressed in a traditional dark dress, a veil covering her head and part of her face (with), a medical face mask. The father has a green jacket, (and) he also, before entering the courtroom, has a cap on his head.

For the first hearing of the appeals process for the murder of the 18-year-old from Novellara, all of the 5 accused relatives are present. Besides the two parents, sentenced to life imprisonment, also the uncle of  Saman, Danish Hasnain, the other prisoner, who arrives with the guards, has a sentence of 14 years, appealed by his attorney and also by the public prosecutor, who was asking for a higher sentence. Also in the courtroom since early in the morning are the two cousins, free after acquittal by the criminal court in Reggio Emila in December 2023: Nomanhulaq Nomanhulaq and Ikram Ijaz, for whom the prosecutor's office has also filed an appeal.

The "crazy variable" of the trial in the second instance for the murder of Saman Abbas "are the statements of the accused: Shabbar Abbas has already spoken, (and) the real novelty is the presence in the courtroom of Nazia, who, not having participated in the (trial) in the first instance, would be a disruptive and new element of the trial." This was said by attorney Liborio Cataliotti, the defense attorney for Danish Hasnain, the uncle of the 18-year-old murdered, speaking with journalists before entering the courtroom of the appellate court and highlighting the role of the mother of the 18-year-old girl, in the courtroom for the first time after extradition.

His client, sentenced to 14 years in the first instance (trial), "is the only defendant to find himself in an ambivalent position. He has filed an appeal asking for acquittal and is also subject to the appeal of the prosecutor, who is asking for reapplication of the aggravating (circumstances), removed in the first instance (trial) at my request. If this was a soccer match, it would be zero to zero, the ball at midfield because anything can happen, from acquittal to life in prison. For the others, the game is different, (and) there are two sides opposite each other. Shabbar and Nazia have filed an appeal, and conversely, the prosecutor's office has appealed the acquittal of the other two defendants," he explained. In Cataliotti's opinion, "the evidence gathered in the first instance is quite sufficient, (and) I don't believe it is necessary to renew the investigation, I maintain the sentence is unassailable, which raises only one doubt: If Danish arrived before the execution of the brutal homicide or immediately after, and it is a doubt admittedly unresolved by the sentence, and in my opinion can make the difference."

In the next hearing on March 6, Saman Abbas' brother, a minor at the time of the events, will be heard again as a witness. This was decided by the Criminal Court of Appeals in Bologna, after consideration of the request for investigation by the Public Prosecutor's office. In the first instance, the young man had accused his relatives, but the court of Reggio Emilia substantially assessed many of his statements as unreliable. The hearing on March 6 will also show a video taken by the investigators that puts in order a series of sequences captured by the surveillance cameras on the days of the crime.

Switzerland: Afghan Asylum-Seeker Beats up Pensioner on Appenzell Train

Here's yet another Afghan success story out of Europe, this time from Switzerland. Earlier this month, a 31-year-old Afghan walked up to a 71-year-old pensioner on a train and began beating him until one passenger (and only one) intervened.

It turns out that the suspect was well-known to the local cops. Yet, he was still in the country and walking around free.

The below article from Blick (Switzerland) is translated from German by Fousesquawk.

Afghan is known to police

Attacker beats pensioner (71), on Appenzell train who is hospitalized

Out of nowhere, on a train in the Appenzell railroad in the beginning of February, a man beat up a pensioner. Except for one passenger, nobody intervened. Now it is clear: The perpetrator is known for previous violent acts.

By Janine Enderli

A man suddenly stands up and walks to the first class (compartment) of an Appenzell train and immediately strikes a pensioner. This brutal act happened in the beginning of February at the Voegelinsegg stop near Speicher (Ausserhoden). The attacked pensioner went immediately to the floor as the St Galler Tagblatt reported.

"I needed a couple of seconds to grasp what was happening," said witness Paul Marschke (20), to the newspaper. The 20-year-old was the only one who intervened to help the victim. All the other passengers watched without acting, as the man lay dazed on the floor.

"That disappointed me"

Marschke then helped the man get up and ensured that the violent perpetrator, who meanwhile, was by the entrance to the train, could not attack the man again.

According to the newspaper, only after several minutes of riding time, were the police notified. "That I had to stand there alone so long, disappointed me, and really made me angry," Marschke describes.

The victim had to be taken to the hospital for examination, as the Appenzell Ausserrhoden confirmed. The perpetrator was arrested and booked.

Alleged perpetrator was known to police

On Tuesday, new details in the case were made known. The alleged thug, a 31-year-old temporarily admitted man from Afghanistan, was known to police.  He reportedly had previously drawn attention through violent acts, the St Gallen Tagblatt reports. Nevertheless, he was walking around free.

The exact course of events is, at this point, the object of the investigation. In addition, there is as yet no reliable information as to the motive of the alleged thug. The Cantonal Police of Appenzell confirm to the newspaper that the alleged perpetrator has kept the police officers busy for a long time. "Over the course of the last year and a half, the Cantonal Police of Appenzell Ausserrhoden have dealt with the alleged perpetrator a good half a dozen times.  It dealt with harassment up to attempted bodily injury," the Tagblatt quoted the police.

The possibilities of the police are limited

Why is it that the alleged perpetrator was walking around free? The police explain in the report that some arrested persons must be released the next day. That is "stressful and frustrating". Alleged perpetrators can only be taken into custody for 24 hours. Anything beyond that is decided by the public prosecutor.

The Cantonal public prosecutor is giving no further information in response to the newspaper due to the ongoing investigation. The question of whether the incident will have an influence on the resident status of the alleged perpetrator also remained unanswered.

Argentina Mourns the Bibas Family

-Times of Israel

On Monday, thousands of people took to the streets of Buenos Aires to mourn the deaths of Shiri Bibas and her two children, Kfir and Ariel, at the hands of Hamas. Shiri's father had immigrated from Argentina to Israel, where Shiri was born. The demonstration, which featured the Israeli ambassador to Argentina, also expressed its support for Israel and its disgust at the horrific actions of the Hamas terrorists.

The below article in the Mendoza Post (Argentina) is translated by Fousesquawk.

Thousands of Argentines remembered the Bibas family

Thousands of people gathered on Monday in front of the Nautical Club Hacoaj, in the city of Buenos Aires in memory of Shiri, Kfir, and Ariel Bibas, to demand the liberation of the kidnapped (people) in Gaza, and to stand with the families of all the victims of the attacks perpetrated by Hamas.
The event was organized by the Israeli embassy in Argentina, the Mutual Israeli Argentina Association (AMIA), the Delegation of Israel Associations in Argentina (DAIA), the Zionist Organization of Argentina (OSA), and the Forum of Families of the Kidnapped and Disappeared.
Caption: The gathering was multitudinous
Present were the Israeli ambassador to Argentina, Eyal Sela, the Minister of Security for Buenos Aires, Waldo Wolff, and the heads of the AMIA, Amos Linetzky, DAIA, Mauro Berenstein, and the OSA, Demian Stratievsky, as well as the head of the TADEA Foundation, Mario Montoto.

During the event, which began at 18:30 and was led by the journalist Alfred Leuco, the action of Hamas was denounced, and the necessity of society uniting in the rejection of terrorism. A few minutes before 19:00, Leuco recalled the "profound pain" of the Jewish community and Argentina in general, highlighting the recent arrival in Israel of the bodies of little Kfir and Ariel Bibas y Oded Lifshitz, victims of the October 7 attacks.

Ambassador Eyal Sela stated: "We had the hope of seeing them again after October 7. We know that they were murdered during captivity. The Bibas family asked that we do not give details of the brutality with which they were murdered. Hamas is the one guilty of this."  He also compared the acts of Hamas with Nazism and called radical Islamism "the evil of this century". Sela also gave thanks for the support of the Argentine president, Javier Milei, and the head of the government of Buenos Aires, Jorge Macri.

The head of AMIA, Amos Linetzky, also thanked the Argentine government for declaring two days of national mourning and criticized those who "have remained silent" in the face of the Hamas attacks. "It is still hard for us to digest and accept the pogrom of October 7, 2023. We point out the silence of the cowards who choose to be silent in the face of fundamentalist hate," he stated.  He also questioned the Left Front deputy, Vanidad Biassi, and activist Adolfo Perez Esquivel, whom he called  "The spokesman of fundamentalist Islamism". He also criticized the International Red Cross for its role in the conflict and Amnesty International for its accusations of genocide against Israel.

Mauro Berenstein, head of the DAIA, called the acts of Hamas "absolute evil" and accused the terrorist group of condemning  the future of entire generations through the indoctrination of hate."

Among the attendees, a wave of orange scarves, alluding to the hair color of the brothers, Kfir and Ariel Bibas, mixed with the flags of Israel and Argentina.

France: 13 Cars Tagged-"F*** the French"

On Wednesday night/early Thursday morning, 13 cars were spray-painted with messages insulting France and the French people. The incident happened at Orcières-Merlette in the Hautes-Alpes (French Alps) region of France.

While this is certainly not a major incident in the overall scheme of things, it should be noted that France has a serious problem on its hands with terrorist attacks, crime, vandalism of churches, and murders and rapes at the hands of mostly young males who are not French.

We have just reported this week on the fatal stabbing of a Portuguese man in Mulhouse at the hands of an Algerian illegal migrant who was under a deportation order. (Algeria refused to accept him.)

In addition), every New Year's Eve, all over France, these same young people take to the streets and set fire to thousands of cars. It has become a sort of tradition. Again, these miscreants are mostly not French. (Admittedly, many are born in France to immigrant families from former French colonies, such as Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia). An added factor is the unrest throughout so many Muslim populations, not just in their own countries, but in their diaspora as well. France-and other Western European countries have a huge problem on their hands with disaffected immigrant youth, many of whom are also developing extremist Islamist attitudes. It is obvious that they don't like France and they don't like the French people.

It appears in the car tagging case described below, the miscreants have escaped. Hopefully, the cops will track them down.

                           "Round up the usual suspects."

The below article in Le Dauphine is translated by Fousesquawk.

During the night of Wednesday the 19th into Thursday the 20th of February, 13 cars parked at the  Orcières-Merlett station were tagged. "Several of our customers who were parked on the Chardons-Bleus route were affected," indicated an employee of Clubs de Soleil Villages in Orcières.

The messages written: "F---  France" (Translator's note: "Nike"-This is apparently a misspelling of "nique"-F---), "F---the French", and "Boom". According to a French police source, these damages are "isolated incidents" and have no "political meaning". A large majority of these affected owners have filed complaints. "An investigation is underway by the brigades of Saint-Bonnet-en-Champsaur," stated Marion Lozac'Hmeur, public prosecutor of Gap*.

Miko Peled Defends October 7

Miko Peled in uniform

"On October 7, 2023, fighters came out of one of the poorest, most oppressed and most heavily controlled and monitored regions in the world and they were able to paralyze the apartheid state. No one has ever been able to do that. Considering the apartheid state has enormous military and intelligence capabilities, it is shocking that these fighters, who came from a concentration camp where water fit for human consumption is a luxury and the basic most needs for survival are non-existent, were able to change the power dynamic so dramatically. It was a watershed moment for Palestine."

-Miko Peled

Miko Peled is an Israeli immigrant to the US. He is also a fierce opponent of his country of birth. For several years here in the US, he has spoken in various venues including college campuses. In 2013, he spoke at the University of California at Irvine, and I was present. Not a particularly pleasant chap, he objected to my videotaping his speech and unsuccessfully tried to have me stop.

In this interview, which is posted in Informed Comment, the curiously-named blog of University of Michigan comedian and professor, Juan Cole, he once again attacks the Jewish state.  As he normally does, he just uses the standard talking points of the Palestinians in referring to the country of his birth (apartheid, genocide, ethnic cleansing). His hatred for Israel seeps through his words.

Of particular interest is his answer to a question from Iranian interviewer Fariba Amini about October 7, 2023, and the barbaric (my word, not theirs)  Hamas attack on Israel, which he justifies. And this man is described in the article as a "peace activist".

And this character we allowed to come and live here is also apparently a great friend to the mullahs in Iran, whom he visited in 2018. That says a lot about his agenda.

And if that isn't enough, he makes the boffo claim that once the "apartheid state falls", everyone will live in peace and harmony in a free and democratic Palestine. Even after October 7, he has the gumption to make that claim.

But there is one piece of good news to those of us living in California. Peled, who was residing in San Diego, has now apparently moved to Washington DC, where he has set up some sort of Palestinian home away from home.

Portugal: Victim of Islamist Terror Attack in France Mourned

-Correio da Manhâ

The one stabbing victim who died in the Islamic knife attack in Mulhouse, France this week has been identified as a Portuguese man, Luso de Sousa Loureiro, 69, who had immigrated to France from Portugal in 1993. He heroically tried to intervene and save lives.

The below article from the Portuguese daily, Correio da Manhâ, is translated by Fousesquawk. The article also reports that French police have arrested three other people, two relatives of the attacker and another individual with whom the attacker had been staying.

The Portuguese who died on Saturday in the knife attack in Mulhouse, France is Lino de Sousa  Loureiro, 69.

The man was born in Ermesinda and had immigrated to France in 1993. He was married and had a son.

Lino de Sousa Loureiro was stabbed to death putting himself between police and the attacker, described as an Islamic extremist. "Interposed between police and the attacker, he was stabbed to death," the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Lusa (news), adding that, "5 other people were injured, including police (2 of whom were injured seriously)."

According to the Associated Press, 4 people were detained, among them, the suspect in the attack, identified by the Public Prosecutor's Office as Brahim, an Algerian, 37. According to the Ministry of Interior, he is an Islamic extremist with a schizophrenic profile. Two relatives of the attacker and a person with whom he stayed were also detained.

According to the Office of the Public Prosecutor of France with responsibility for anti-terrorism, the attack was connected to Islamic extremism, and the suspect was armed with a knife and a screwdriver. During the attack, he repeatedly shouted, "God is Great" (Allahu Akhbar).

Also on Saturday, French President Emmanuel Macron said there was no doubt that the attack was "an act of terrorism and Islamic."

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, condemned the "hateful attack" and lamented the death of the Portuguese, offering condolences to the family and the Portuguese community of this French city. The Prime Minister, Luis Montenegro, pointed out the "bravery" of the man (who) intervened in the attack and who saved "so many other" lives.

Netherlands: Ramadan Expo 2025 Mired in Controversy

Hat tip Omroep PowNed

Mohammed Hijab

Ali Hammuda

Abu Bakr Zoud

On February 22-23, the annual Ramadan Expo was held in Utrecht. It is advertised as a fair of some sort, but the Dutch government tried to impose an entry ban on three preachers who were coming from other countries to speak, two from Britain and one from Australia. According to Asylum and Migration Minister Marjolein Faber, the preachers had a history of hate speech, including, but not limited to,  diatribes against homosexuals and denials that Hamas did anything wrong on October 7, 2023 (when they massacred over 1,100 Israelis and took over 200 hundred as hostages back into Gaza).

However, a Dutch judge overruled the minister and, as they say at the circus, the show went on. The three preachers in question were Mohammed Hijab, Ali Hammuda (of Britain) and  Abu Bakr Zoud of Australia.

The conservative Dutch news outlet Omroep PowNed, sent a reporter and cameraman to the Expo to ask questions. They were not well received in spite of the organizers' repeated claims that everyone was welcome.

The below article from Omroep PowNed is translated by Fousesquawk. There is also a video showing the reporter attempting to ask questions of attendees and how they were treated in a less-than-welcoming nature. The video also features clips of the above three speakers making their past comments (in English) about homosexuals, anal sex, and October 7. Hopefully, we will be able to provide English subtitles for the video, but given its length (over 6 minutes), it will take some time.

Tense atmosphere surrounding hate preachers at Ramadan fair: "Gang organized"

Glorifying pedophilia, denying October 7, and claiming that homosexuals get anal cancer from anal sex. These are statements that Minister Marjolein Faber did not like and therefore issued an entry ban for the speakers at the Ramadan fair. But the judge decided that you could perfectly well preach this at such a fair and so canceled out the entry ban, good for the Muslims who enjoy a visit to the fair on Saturday.

It just wasn't so convivial. The annual fair advised our reporter, Abel, to leave after our cameraman was threatened and there was a gang called in to tackle our Abel. Questions could not be asked because everybody was instructed not to talk. Even the smoking (not allowed) Muslims who were standing outside- yes, apparently Allah doesn't see if you smoke outside- didn't want to say anything.

The organization claims that everyone is welcome although they don't know if you are welcome at the fair if you are a homosexual or have anal cancer.

France: Algeria Refused to Accept Mulhouse Attacker 10 Times

-Yahoo News-The scene of the attack

The man arrested for the stabbing attack in Mulhouse, France this week has been identified as Brahim Abdessemed, an Algerian national who was illegally in the country. Worse yet, he had been previously arrested for making terroristic threats, but Algeria reportedly refused to accept him back on ten occasions. The Interior Minister, Bruno Retailleau, is angry and is speaking out against Algeria now that one person, a Portuguese national, is dead and seven others are injured.

But the Foreign Minister, Jean-Noel Barrot, is taking a softer tone and urges diplomacy.

The below article from Le Point is translated by Fousesquawk.

Bruno Retailleau wants a "balance of power with Algeria" Jean-Noel Barrot softens (the tone)

After the attack committed in Mulhouse by an Algerian national under OQTF( Obligation to leave French territory), the minister of Interior raises the tone while that of the foreign minister advocates diplomacy.

By Lucile Briere for Le Point

Posted 23 February 2025 at 15:21

"Once again, Islamist terrorism has struck," declared the minister of Interior, Bruno Retailleau, on Saturday, 22 February, a few hours after a knife attack in Mulhouse. One man is dead, and seven other  persons were injured- two surveillance officers and five municipal police officers, according to the National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor's Office (Pnat), which has taken over and opened an investigation.

Before committing the act, the individual shouted, "Allahu Akhbar". Almost immediately after the attack, and from the Agricultural Show, Emmanuel Macron evoked an "Islamist terrorist act, which is beyond doubt."

Bruno Retailleau wants to "establish a balance of power"

According to sources contacted by Le Point, the attacker, Brahim A., is an Algerian born in April 1987. Known to the courts for supporting terrorism, the man is under (OQTF) and under judicial supervision. The suspect had already been placed in an administrative detention center (CRA) and was released in June 2024 at the end of the maximum legal period of 90 days because Algeria had not issued the consular pass that would have permitted his expulsion.

According to Bruno Retailleau, Algeria refused "ten times" to receive its national. "No country has the right to humiliate France," he said to JT 20 hours (TF1), a few hours after the attack. "We have to "establish a balance of power," with Algeria, as to visas and bilateral agreements.

Jean-Noel Barrot advocates "exigent" cooperation

On Sunday, 23 February, on the set of CNews and Europe 1, the Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noel Barrot, tempered the time and advocated diplomacy. "What is of interest to us is the security of the French people, not the balance of power for the sake of the balance of power......  When we act unilaterally and say, "I am stopping with the visas," that doesn't work. We act through diplomacy with a range of tools we talk about and others that we don't talk about ."

The minister evoked the 2022 agreement. "In 2022, we signed a very stringent agreement of cooperation with Algeria, and we have tripled the number of repatriations to the border."

Jean-Noel Barrot announced that the government was going to convene an inter-ministerial council on control of immigration on Wednesday

France: The Mulhouse Terrorist-Follow up

Here is more information on the attacker in Mulhouse, France. Yet another example of a preventable tragedy. A Portuguese citizen was stabbed to death by Brahim A., an Algerian man already in the country illegally and already known as a terrorist risk.

*Update (2-23-2025) Francois deSouche is reporting that the full name of the suspect is Brahim Abdessemed, and that on 10 occasions, Algeria refused to accept him for deportation.

The below article in Le Figaro is translated by Fousesquawk. It is only a partial translation as the article is subject to a subscriber block.

Mulhouse attack: When the attacker, Brahim A., appeared  in 2023 calling for jihad

By Elisabeth Pierson

Posted 22 February at 23:48. Updated 23 February at 00:10

Caption: The zone of the terrorist attack in Mulhouse, 22 February

The perpetrator of the terrorist attack in Mulhouse Saturday had already appeared after the publication of a video on his Facebook account calling on Muslims to "fight the disbelievers". He was sentenced to 6 months in prison and a ban from French territory for 10 years.

On 5 November 2023, France is still in shock from the attack in Arras, which occurred on 13 October, when a young man, to the cry of "Allahu Akhbar", stabbed a professor, Dominique Bernard. Brahim A., 37, an illegal migrant of Algerian nationality, at Mulhouse since 2014, takes his cell phone, goes out on the street, and films himself launching a call to jihad. According to the Alsace newspaper, the Algerian, his face to the camera, calls on Muslims "to fight for Palestine, to take up arms, and fight the disbelievers." He posts his video on Facebook, and the same evening, goes to the neighboring mosque to "promote it, "inviting as many as possible to follow him," according to the Prosecutor of the Republic in Mulhouse, who will try him in an (upcoming) appearance.

Because after this video, his own family, according to our colleagues from the local newspaper, reportedly alerted the police station. Brahim A. was arrested at this home. A knife was found under his pillow near a Koran. In an immediate appearance..............

Sweden: Not Much Has Changed Since 2010

Recently, our colleague at Vlad Tepes uncovered an old video from 2010 in the Swedish city of Malmö. Vlad reposted it to show that nothing has really changed in Malmö, particularly in the notorious neighborhood of Rosengård

The scenario: Ambulance services responding to a report of a person in medical distress. When they arrive, they are met with a violent crowd of dozens of young men who force them to call for police assistance. Police arrive to join the battle.

Old news? Yes, but hardly out of date. It could just as easily have happened last night. The subtitling of the video is by Vlad Tepes, RAIR Foundation USA, and Gates of Vienna. Translation by Fousesquawk.

19-year-old Syrian

Attack at Holocaust Memorial: What is known about the perpetrator

2-22-2025 17:38

Berlin: A tourist was attacked at the Holocaust Memorial and critically injured. The perpetrator is reportedly a (19)-year old Syrian. What is known.

On Friday evening around 6 pm, a terrible act happened at the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin-Mitte (Central). A 30-year-old tourist from Spain was attacked from behind with a knife. That is reported by the police and State Prosecutor's Office in Berlin in a joint statement.

The attacker then fled, but around 8:45 pm, approached the police at the scene of the crime. His hands were smeared with blood, and his pants had blood stains- the authorities immediately arrested the man. What is known about him?

Berlin Holocaust Memorial: Suspect is a recognized refugee from Syria

According to consistent media reports, the young man's name is Wassim al-M.  The suspect is a 19-year-old recognized refugee from Syria. According to up-to-date findings by the investigators, he reportedly came to Germany in 2023 as an unaccompanied minor refugee, that is, without his parents, and applied for asylum. That was granted to him, so he is residing in Germany legally. His residence is in Leipzig according to a joint statement from the police and State Prosecutor's Office. According to "Bild" (newspaper), M. stated in his asylum proceedings that he had been "hunted, jailed, and tortured" by the deposed ruler, Bashar al-Assad. Since that was believed, he was granted protected status.

The investigation (reveals) connections with the Middle East conflict. The accused reportedly told police that the idea of killing Jews had been brewing in his (mind) for a few weeks. That is why he went to the Holocaust memorial. In the Syrian's backpack, according to information, was a prayer rug, a Koran, a note with Koranic verses, with Friday's date as well as the suspected weapon. An investigation is already underway in the refugee shelter in Leipzig. On Saturday, Wassim al-M. will be brought before the magistrate.

Holocaust Memorial in Berlin: Spaniard critically injured

The 19-year-old has made a clear impression, it is further stated. Whether there is any psychiatric illness is the subject of the investigation. There are presently no indications of connections to other persons or organizations.

The accused reportedly has no criminal record in Berlin, it is further stated. In Saxony, however, he is known to police for various crimes, Bild newspaper reports.  He has reportedly been (involved) in "simple violations of common criminality," without political connections, (Bild) says, citing the State Interior Ministry.

National Security Police and a homicide squad of the State Police Berlin have meanwhile, taken over the investigations for suspicion of attempted murder and serious injury. "Due to the significance of the case, the Berlin National Prosecutor's Office has taken charge of the investigation," the explanation states.

The Spaniard who was attacked suffered critical injuries in his neck from the knife attack. Only through quick intervention by rescue services and an emergency operation (temporarily in an induced coma) could his life be saved. He is now out of danger.

Federal Interior Minster Nancy Faeser (SPD) stated, "The knife attack at the Berlin Holocaust Memorial is a heinous and brutal crime." She demanded that the alleged perpetrator be severely punished and "deported directly from custody". "Whoever commits such acts and abuses protection in Germany in the most disgusting way, has forfeited every right to be in our country."

Terrorist theory "beyond doubt"

Emmanuel Macron has evoked an "act of Islamist terrorism"...... "that is beyond doubt", in expressing the "solidarity of the entire nation". The head of state indicated that the Interior Minister, Bruno Retailleau would be en route to the location "(Saturday evening) to give the details of the case". "I want to express (...) the determination of the government and mine to continue the work that has been ours for 8 years to eradicate terrorism on our soil," he added during a visit to the Agricultural Show in Paris.

The events played out shortly before 4 pm on the sidelines of a demonstration in support of the Congo. At the location, near the covered canal market, a security perimeter has been set up. "The horror has seized our city," the mayor of the city, Michele Lutz, deplored in a statement posted on Facebook. "The terrorist theory seems to be (probable) for the moment. That will, naturally, be confirmed at the judicial level," she added. She addressed her "fraternal sentiments" to the victims and their families."

The Latest Obscene Hamas Turnover

Palestinian barbarism is once again on full display with the Hamas turnover of 4 bodies of Israelis who were kidnapped into Gaza on October 7, 2023 and who died in captivity.  What is especially sickening and outrageous is that 2 of them were small children, an infant, Kfir Bibas, and his 4-year-old brother, Ariel Bibas, The two siblings and their mother, Shiri Bibas, were among the dead along with an elderly adult male, Oded Lifshitz.

As is their primitive custom, Hamas turned the event into another "propaganda" spectacular claiming that Israel killed them in their bombing. Even if that's true, they should not have been kidnapped and taken to Gaza in the first place. One wonders who had it worse, these 4 souls or the ones who were raped and massacred on October 7, including babies beheaded or roasted in ovens by these animals.

What kind of people claiming to have a righteous cause kidnap mothers and infants, holding them in inhuman conditions for over a year? Certainly not a civilized people. Hamas is a terrorist organization, and they are once again demonstrating why the US has them so designated.

And what kind of people support Hamas in our own country-on our campuses and on our streets? What kind of people in the leadup to this ugly show would march into a heavily Jewish neighborhood in New York City (Tuesday) to express their support for Hamas? Yes, we have uncivilized people in our country, some foreigners, some witless Americans, even some misfit Jews. It staggers the imagination.

For the latest victims, the Bibas family and Mr Lifschitz, may their memories be a blessing.

As for Hamas, may they burn in Hell.

Imam Iyad Hilal (Al-Hedayah Mosque, Santa Ana, California)

Hat tip Memri TV

Imam Iyad Hilal

On February 14, the imam of the Al-Hedayah Mosque in Santa Ana, California, Iyad Hilal, gave a sermon in which he said that the Jews of Israel should go back to where they came from (Europe). He is described in the linked Memri TV article (with video clip) as an Islamic scholar. Perhaps, but not a scholar when it comes to history.

If he knew anything about history, he would know that Jews are from the land of Israel. Even the Koran tells you that. As for the Jewish diaspora, they were not only in Europe but lived for centuries in Arab lands until 1948 when they were driven out- some half a million of them.

I'm not sure where this imam comes from other than he studied in Saudi Arabia. Judging from his accent, he is not American-born. If he wants to come to our country and spread his Jew hatred here, my feeling is that he should go back to whatever country he came from.

Yes, I said it!

Sweden: Preaching Violent Jihad in an Islamic School

The Swedish School Inspectorate has ruled that the Växjö Islamic School must remove the (unnamed) chairman of the school after he gave a Friday sermon urging that Muslim children be taught to carry out jihad. The authorities judged that the subject was exclusively about jihad as armed struggle.

The below article from Fria Tider is translated by Fousesquawk.

Head of Sweden's last Muslim school must resign

Posted 19 February 2025 09:38

Domestic. The School Inspectorate has decided that the chairman of the Växjö Islamic School is no longer fit to run school operations and must resign no later than 25 April. The decision comes after he preached jihad during a Friday prayer, something that was also captured on film.

During the spring of 2024, the School Inspectorate received information about possible abuse in the school, which is the last remaining Muslim school in Sweden.

The authority then began a review to determine the person's fitness. After carrying out an inspection, they have now determined that the school's chairman, who also functions as operations manager, cannot continue his duties.

In a press release, the school writes that it "takes the decision with the greatest seriousness and will report back to the authorities the measures taken within the set time frame".

The background to the decision is a sermon during Friday prayers where the head of the school said, among other things, that "Muslims' vulnerable situation in the world is because Muslims have abandoned jihad and that it isn't taught in schools and at home".  He also reportedly urged that "our children be taught to carry out jihad," and told how the Prophet Mohammad's followers prioritized jihad over dates.

The chairman of the board denies the accusations and believes that the statements have been taken out of context and that a faulty translation was made. But the School Inspectorate, which received help from the Center Against Violent Extremism (CVE), states that the sermon was exclusively about jihad as armed struggle. The authority, thus, rejects the objections.

The Växjö Islamic School now has until April 25 to remove the representative. If that doesn't happen, more serious measures can be taken.

Austria: 14-Year-Old Terror Suspect Arrested

On February 10, Austrian police arrested a 14-year-old boy of Turkish background in Vienna for planning a terrorist attack on the West Train Station of Vienna. A search of his home revealed bomb-making materials and knives as well as an ISIS flag and various hand-written sketches that indicated the planning of a terror attack.

The below article from Kronen Zeitung is translated by Fousesquawk. It is only the first half of the article. The remainder will be translated time allowing.

Police prevent attack on the Vienna-West train station

Vienna February 19, 2025 at 13:59

The police and Office for Protection of the Consitution (Security Police) have apparently prevented a terrorist attack in Vienna. A boy just 14 years old reportedly planned an attack at the West Train Station. The teenager has been arrested.

As the Interior Ministry reported on Wednesday, investigators from the State Office for National Security and Anti-Terror (LSE) and forces of WEGA (Vienna special police unit), arrested the youth on February 10 in Vienna-Währing. The youth, of Turkish background, as "Krone" learned, was reportedly radicalized on the TikTok Internet platform.

Sketches and attack plans seized

In the house search, the investigators came across  Islamist books. In addition, various hand-written sketches were seized, that showed attacks with knives and machetes on a train station as well as police.  Drawings of Islamist soldiers with the ISIS flag were also found. Among the sketches were also found handwritten instructions for the production of explosive material that would function as a detonator for a bomb that would be made.

Bomb-making materials found

In addition, aluminum pipes, table legs, and duct tape were found in a hiding place in a basement. These materials would have been used to construct a bomb.  Also found and seized in another bag were a combat knife with a 16.5-centimeter blade, another folding knife with a 7-centimeter blade, as well as a flag with the Islamic profession of faith. The flag was similar to that also seized after the attack in Villach.

During the immediate interrogation, the 14-year-old reportedly refused to make any statement.

The Directorate of National Security and Intelligence Service (DSN) had previously received information that a previously unknown supporter of a terrorist organization was reportedly spreading stories and videos with Islamist ideas on several TikTok profiles. The DSN was able to quickly determine the identity of the ISIS supporter, (and) his arrest was immediately ordered. Shocking: During the arrest, the suspect had a (serrated) knife and a 5-centimeter-long blade in his pants pocket.

More and more ISIS propaganda on the net

It is not the first time that a young person has been radicalized on the Internet. The Federal Interior Ministry stressed on Wednesday that the spread of Islamist propaganda in digital space is increasing and serving as an inspirational source for terrorist-motivated acts. Terror organizations are increasingly using their own computer games and apps for targeted indoctrination.

At the same time, encrypted communication channels and legal hurdles make the work of the security authorities more difficult, who first have to seize a device to be able to seize relevant content.

"This success by the Office for Protection of the Constitution shows the importance of a functioning fight against terrorism," commented the director of DSN, Omar Haijawi-Pirchner, on the attack that was prevented. "The investigative methods of the security authorities must, however, consistently adapt to the continuing digitalization in order to be able to work efficiently."

Munich's Checkered History

Munich

The Hofbrauhaus

Oktoberfest

When we think of Munich, we think of happy events, the Oktoberfest, the Hofbrauhaus, the beer halls, and the beer gardens. Munich is a wonderful city, always a pleasure to visit. However, like all major cities, it has seen its share of tragedy, and it has its share of dark periods, largely due to its prominent role in the Third Reich. This week, the city experienced its latest tragedy when an Afghan asylum-seeker drove a car into a crowd of people and killed two people, a mother and her two-year-old daughter. Over 30 others were injured.

If we go back just to the early 20th century, the city has witnessed its share of  unfortunate history. In 1914, when Germany declared war, a large crowd formed in the square on Odeonsplatz in front of the Feldherrnhalle memorial to the Bavarian army and cheered wildly. One of the people in the crowd was none other than Adolf Hitler, who had recently moved to Munich from Vienna to escape Austrian military service. Ironically, he was more than eager to join the German army and fight in World War 1. Incredibly, a photo taken at the time reportedly captured the image of Hitler, still a complete unknown at that time. (Some historians have questioned the validity of the photograph.)

When the war ended, Hitler was in a military hospital, having been temporarily blinded in a gas attack. Returning to Munich, he remained for a while in the army and eventually joined the fledgling German Workers Party, which became the National Socialist German Workers Party (Nazis), and where he quickly rose to become its leader. Munich has since been known as the "birthplace of Nazism."

Prior to that, however, Germany dissolved into chaos following the war. In Munich, the House of Wittelsbach was overthrown, and a Bavarian Soviet Republic was proclaimed in November 1918, under Kurt Eisner, who was later assassinated in Munich the following year. Amid all the fighting around the country, the communist government was removed in a vicious battle in Munich in which hundreds died.

Kurt Eisner

In 1923, the Nazi party, under Hitler's leadership, attempted a coup ( the Beer Hall Putsch) which began in Munich and was intended to lead to the capital in Berlin. It all ended in a hail of bullets at the aforementioned Odeonsplatz. Hitler was arrested a few days later and spent nearly a year in nearby Landsberg Prison, where he wrote Mein Kampf. After his release in December 1924, Hitler returned to Munich where the party rebuilt itself after the national ban was lifted. After a gradual series of electoral victories, Hitler was appointed chancellor in January 1933 by President Paul von Hindenburg. By that time, Hitler had not only purchased a villa in Berchtesgaden, but an apartment on Prinzregentenplatz in Munich. In 1931, Hitler's niece, Geli Raubal, whom he was living with in the apartment and with whom Hitler was rumored to have some sort of improper relationship, was found dead in the Prinzregenten apartment of an (apparent) self-inflicted gunshot wound. The mystery surrounding her death has never been solved. It was also in Munich during this era that Hitler met Eva Braun, who was born in the city.

16 Prinzregentenplatz
Hitler's apartment was on the second floor (in the US would be considered third floor). The building now houses a police station.

By June 1934, Hitler had long since abolished any semblance of democracy in Germany, and the first concentration camp was established at Dachau, just a few kilometers outside Munich. On June 30, 1934, came the so-called "Night of the Long Knives". That was when Hitler moved against the Sturmabteilung (Storm Troops) under Ernst Roehm, a Munich native, who Hitler believed was plotting against him. After being arrested in nearby Bad Wiessee, Roehm and others were brought to Munich's Stadelheim prison, where they were summarily shot, Roehm in his cell when he refused to shoot himself. Roehm is buried in the city's West Cemetery.

Munich, of course, was the scene of the infamous agreement concluded by Britain and France that allowed Hitler to take possession of the Sudentenland portion of Czechoslovakia, which was inhabited largely by German-speaking people. The name Munich became synonymous with this international sellout.

On November 7, 1938, a young Jew of Polish origin named Herschel Grynszpan walked into the German embassy in Paris and shot an embassy official, Ernst vom Rath. Grynszpan was enraged because his family had been deported from Germany to Poland. Vom Rath died 2 days later, and while the annual Nazi commemoration of the Beer Hall Putsch was in progress in Munich, Nazi leaders who were attending, upon being notified of vom Rath's death, put the calls out around the country that resulted in the pogrom all over Germany against Jewish citizens and their homes and businesses that very night. Grynzspan was eventually killed by the Nazis in France during the occupation of World War 2.

In November 1939, Hitler was speaking at the Burgerbraukeller in Munich, again at the annual commemoration of the Beer Hall Putsch, when a bomb exploded under the podium where he had been speaking just minutes before. Hitler had unexpectedly cut short his speech and was on a train back to Berlin when the bomb went off.  A lone would-be assassin, Georg Elser, was arrested while attempting to cross over into Switzerland that same night and was found to be the bomber while in police custody. He was executed by the Nazis only in the closing days of World War 2.

Burgerbraukeller after 1939 bombing

In June  1942, with World War 2 underway, a resistance group arose in Munich against the war and against Hitler's government. It consisted of a group called "The White Rose", a small group of students at the University of Munich and one of their professors (Kurt Huber). They produced pamphlets clandestinely and distributed them not just in Munich, but in different parts of Germany, riding the trains to various towns, dropping off pamphlets in open spaces where they could be found, and returning to Munich. The principal members were Sophie Scholl and her brother Hans, who had served in the army on the Eastern Front and knew of the atrocities being committed there. Hans and Sophie were arrested in February 1943 while dropping pamphlets in a University of Munich lecture hall. Others in their group were gradually arrested in the ensuing months. Hans and Sophie, as well as another Munich student, Christoph Probst, were brought to trial within days before the infamous hanging judge, Roland Freisler, who had been brought in from Berlin to conduct the trial. Condemned to death, all three were transported to Stadelheim prison and guillotined the same day. Others would follow in the ensuing months, Huber, Willi Graf, and Alexander Schmorell. Today, their names are honored in Germany.

As with virtually every major city in Germany, Munich was leveled by the Allies in World War 2.

Munich 1945

Though largely overlooked by history, the final act of Munich's Nazi history was played out in October 1946 when ten Nazi defendants, convicted in the Nuremberg war crimes trials were hanged in the prison in Nuremberg. An 11th, Hermann Goering, committed suicide by cyanide capsule in his cell hours before the executions began. From Nuremberg, the bodies were put on lorries and trucked to Munich, a 2-hour drive from Nuremberg. It was in Munich that their bodies were cremated. Contrary to some accounts that claimed the cremations were carried out in the ovens of Dachau, the bodies were actually cremated at the East Cemetery of Munich. The ashes were then carried to a requisitioned house on the edge of a tributary that fed into the Isar River, which flows through Munich, where they were scattered.

The city suffered another dark episode during the 1972 Olympic Games when Palestinian terrorists sneaked into the Olympic Village and took the entire 11-man Israeli team hostage killing two in the process. The affair ended at Munich's Fuerstenfeldbruck Airbase in which a gunfight erupted between terrorists and police. All of the Israeli Olympians and one police officer were killed in the firefight. Five of the eight terrorists were also killed.

In September 1980, the Oktoberfest suffered a terrorist bombing in which 13 people were killed including the bomber when his bomb went off prematurely. The bomber was identified as a neo-Nazi.

And most recently this:
