An American Muslim Reformer Speaks out on France

I have occasionally cross-posted articles by Shireen Qudosi, who is an American Muslim reformer based in California. She is a target of the Islamists like CAIR who attack her because she is not afraid to criticize them and admit there is a problem with Islam when it comes to hate, violence, and terrorism. Below, in the Clarion Project, she speaks out on the latest events in France.

You may or may not agree with every single point in Qudosi's article, but to me, those Muslims who speak out against the Islamists (those who want to impose political Islam upon us)  deserve our support. I personally have my doubts that Islam can actually reform without throwing out large portions of the Koran, the hadith, and rejecting many of the words and deeds of Mohammad. Keep in mind that when Martin Luther launched his Reformation in Germany, he did not reject the Bible or Jesus Christ. He rejected the man-made corruption of the Vatican. Islam has no Vatican, but it does have Islamic schools of jurisprudence, Sharia law, Islamic scholars, and imams who carry great authority and who preach their ideas to the masses.

There are branches of Islam, such as Sufi and Ahmadiya which have pretty good track records when it comes to not engaging in or encouraging violence and terrorism. Yet, neither is recognized by mainstream Sunnis and Shia even though they recognize Sharia law and give you the same talking points that Islamic apologists in the West give you.

Am I optimistic that there are enough Qudosis and Zuhdi Jassers out there to make a difference and bring about real change? No, but I have to support them and their message, nonetheless. They have chosen to remain Muslims because they seemingly feel that the jihadists/Islamists do not represent true Islam. I disagree on that point, but I still maintain that Muslim reformers are putting their lives on the line to bring about a version of Islam that can live in harmony with everybody else. When people put their lives on the line, I don't doubt their sincerity.
