School Field Trips in Germany: Under Hitler and Under Merkel

There was a time in Germany when German parents were forced to have their children join the Hitler Youth (boys) or League of German Girls. Now, under the government of Angela Merkel, parents get fined if they withhoild their children from school visits to mosques.

Are the German government and courts blind to the obvious parallels here? Who do the children belong to in Germany, the parents or the State?
