Last week we reported on a brutal gang rape of a Polish woman and her the severe beating of her boyfriend at the Italian resort town of Rimini. The Italian police now have four men in custody, two brothers from Morocco, a Nigerian and a Congolese. The below article is from Quotidiano. I have translated it into English.

Guerlin Butungo

The insults at the 4th accused rapist of Rimini

The Facebookj profile of the 20-year old Congolese, Guelin Butungo, arrested during the night, was bombarded with dozens of insulting messages. In the meantime the father of two Moroccans and the social coop of Pesaro speak.

In a few hours, from the time the identity of the preseumed head of the band of rapists of Miramare of Rimini was noted, the Facebook profile (page) of the 20-year-old Congolese Guerlin Butungo, arrested in the night, was hit by a barrage of insulting messages. Among the comments in a public post on 17 July, in which the young man speaks in French about a dead friend, there are so many that wish death to him and make reference to the need for capital punishment, with various racist insults. One of the more recent up to now by Butungu is from 3 July, his birthday, when the young man thanked God for protecting him up to now.

Guerlin Butungo had attempted to flee from Pesaro taking a train last night. The men of the Mobil Squadron, who were monitoring his movements with the help of technology, stopped him while the train was transiting the Rimini station. Once the train was stopped the men of SCO and the Mobil Squadron boarded and found the young man in one of the cars.

"The arrest of this morning is a double satisfaction because it was two women who put the handcuffs on the 4th man.  A symbolic gesture that has brought justice  to the victims of violence" said Chief of Police Maurizio Impronta. "A result made possible by the  great work by the (Mobile) Squadron. The man arrested this morning, an adult Nigerian, who had requested asylum, was surprised at first by the presence of the police and tried to deny his identity. But he has now been nailed."

The Father of Two Arrested Brothers

The father of two Moroccan brothers of ages 15 and 17  residing in Vallefoglia of Pesarese, a 51-year-old in Resto del Carlino, explained that he recognized his sons from photos disseminated in the newspapers and that yesterday, the 17-year-old son returned home crying. "He told me that he was with his brother and two other friends, a Congolese and a Nigerian at Rimini. They participated in the rape that people have been talking about for days. I told him to go immediately to the Carabinieri. I can understand that someone would steal a phone but not that one could rape a woman. If they have done something of that sort, they must pay."

The man has two other sons, works as a welder, and has been in Italy for years. The oldest son, who like the other, frequents the hotel, said  the father. "He told me that that older one  made them go to Rimini, that he promised  money if they maybe stole some cell phones and then sold them to him. He got them to drink, a beer in one place, a (beer) in another....(place)".  The older one also told HIM "that the Congolese  pointed to the Polish girl and said, "I'll take care of this one." The Congolese hit her. He was slapping her. He tried to tell them, 'Let her go. Why are you doing these things?' But then he dragged her away from them and continued." What did he say to the boys when he understood it was them? "That they had to tell the truth and that they shouldn't remain silent for an entire week. And that they were lucky. I know how these things go. I have also made mistakes. I have been drunk. I have stolen. I have been in brawls. Therefore, first with the transsexual they took a risk because they could have been traced by the protector. But then they took a risk also by the attack on the Polish woman. Because, I say this clearly, if anyone rapes any of my women, my wife, or my mother or my daughter, I will kill him."

I have decided not to translate the messages sent to Butungo's Facebook page as several are  racist in nature.
