Eliyahu Hanavi synagogue in Alexandria
Daniel Greenfield, writing in Frontpage Magazine, describes how the new Egyptian government has closed the last operating synagogue in the country. There will be no Rosh Hashana or Yom Kippur service-for security reasons.

The "Arab Spring" is under way.
I wonder if President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton are even aware of this.
If Hitler had allowed synagogues to remain open, would everything else he did have been acceptable?
ReplyDeleteAt the time of massive Jewish immigration to the USA (which was resolutely opposed by our anti-immigration crowd of that time), most of Europe was anti-Semitic, with not a Muslim in sight.
Our government did allow large numbers to enter "the land of the free" and work for cheap, but we did not daily demand that our State Department take action against France, Poland, Austria, Spain, Italy, Russia... nor Germany, which was one of the better countries for Jews to live in.
I do believe there are only 7 Jews left. 1 man and 6 aging women.
ReplyDeleteIsraelis took it upon themselves in the past to bring a minyan (10 Jewish men) to hold High Holy Day Services.
That explains it then... Egypt got tired of Israel sending ten furriners to hold service when there weren't enough Egyptians to hold one.
