Another Fast and Furious Memo Undercuts DOJ's Defense

Senator Charles Grassley has sent a letter to Eric Holder asking him to explain a memo written by an ATF agent in Lubbock, Texas on February 3, the day before DOJ sent a letter to Grassley flatly denying that guns were allowed to "walk" in Operation Fast and Furious. (Hat tip Daily Caller)

It appears that Agent Styers was assigned to the Phoenix ATF office at the time of the events he described in his memo. Hope McAllister was the Fast and Furious lead case agent within group 7 of the Phoenix office.

Another point of interest is that Styers mentions a co-case agent from ICE by the name of Lane France. ICE is under the Department of Homeland Security, the department that lost at least one of its agents (Brian Terry and possibly two (Jaime Zapata). Keep in mind that DHS head Janet Napolitano has denied even having discussed Fast and Furious with Eric Holder since the death of Agent Terry.

Styers also corroborates the fact that this group was sharply divided as to the propriety of Fast and Furious.

In addition, Agent Styers raises an interesting point. Wiretap operations require a 24-hour surveillance on the suspects(s). His account of the transaction at a gas station certainly raises eyebrows in that they backed off surveillance and allowed the guns in question to leave the scene without further surveillance.

Finally, considering the nature of Fast and Furious, the Senate/House investigation, and the death of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry, is it not reasonable to suspect that this memo would, indeed, have reached the desks of ATF and Justice officials at least by February 4, the date of that bogus letter to Grassley, which was signed by DOJ (high-ranking) official Ronald Welch?

  1. The DoJ and the Dept. of Homeland Security are complicit in the Fast and Furious scandal. It would be naive to think otherwise. The White House is also complicit in this cover-up. But, Obama is wise to declare "executive privilege" in this situation, which will allow him to get the votes he needs to retain the Oval Office. With his power maintained, he will be able to rule the U.S.A., as he pleases. The signs are already here, as Eric Holder will not face jail time for his contempt of Congress and the sudden change of heart from the SCOTUS. Worse yet, is Hillary's agreeing to the U.N. treaty on the international gun ban (the death of all semi-auto weapons). This is a first!
