Hat tip to Orange County Independent Task Force on Anti-Semitism
Photos from My UC Irvine web site
I never can figure out why UC Irvine takes such pride in displaying photos of the Israel Apartheid events that give the school such a black eye every May. Below, via the Orange County Independent Task Force on Anti-Semitism, is a posting on My UC Irvine by an anonymous writer. Once again, photos of the hateful events are hung on the wall of a student center.

Free speech? Absolutely. Here is the problem, however. A lot of people looking at this display may infer that the university is putting its imprimatur on the messages shown. This seems to be a recurring problem on many campuses. A couple of years ago, the UCI outdoor marquee posted an announcement for the MSU events under the title: "Israel-The Politics of Genocide". The perception was that this was UCI's position on the Israel-Palestinian conflict. The same perception exists when a university website contains calls for the "boycott, divest and sanctions" against Israel.
Over the years, UCI has seen some pretty hateful things said at these events. It was at one of these events that imam Mohammed al-Asi stated, "you can take the Jew out of the ghetto, but you can't take the ghetto out of the Jew." Amir Abdel Malik Ali has stated that suicide bombers were not terrorists, but martyrs and heroes. In his last appearance in 2010, he told the Jews in the audience, "You Jews, y'all the new Nazis!"
I don't know the professor who put those photos up, and I am not saying he is anti-Semitic or even anti-Israel. However, in an environment where everyone is worried about offending sensitivities, let's extend that concern to everyone. The latest display in the student center gives the impression, at least to some, that the university is in sympathy with those protests.
It is only a matter of time that the MSU will demand a quota of Jews to be admitted to UC schools. And to appease them the system will agree.
ReplyDeleteNot to worry! I'm sure the Jewish Federation or the Rose Project will spring into action.... more likely they will spring for some more money to go to the Olive Tree Initiative.
ReplyDeleteThis ongoing hateful event demonstrates to all how ineffective they have been for the last five or six years. This is despite their assurances that the level of antisemitism at UCI is exaggerated, that they are working "behind the scenes" or that "everything that can be done is being done." Just keep those donations flowing and they will continue to represent the Jewish students and Jewish community (as ineptly as they have been).
Chancellor Drake refuses to name the organization that causes all the problems. He (and UC President Yudof) deplore this type of activity, insinuating that everybody is at fault when, in fact, only the Muslims cause the problems. Drake and Yudof are both intimidated cowards, refusing to exercise their moral obligation to publically condemn the guilty campus organizations.
There has to be changes at the OC Jewish Federation, the Rose Project, and UCI or this will get worse and worse. The creeping Islamization of UCI both faculty and student body will be accelerated as each forgiveness and unmentioned offense gives license to the next.
The MSU understands this very well (as they now ignore the probation that was imposed on them after the last episode and which is still in effect. The Federation and Rose Project counters by funding UCI students to go to Israel and be propagandized by true activists on the plight of the poor Palestinians. That has helped a lot, as this latest Hate Week demonstrates.

Findalis,
ReplyDeleteThe MSU doesn't need to demand a quota limit. Jewish students are already avoiding UCI. They have for years.
@ Miggie
ReplyDeleteGood points Miggie! The OC Jewish Federation and the Rose Project continue their feckless efforts to win Islamist support and waste Jewish community money on 60's style love fest trips to the state of israel, with the hope that Islamists will embrace the love. That will never happen, as the islamist ideology will never allow it to happen. This is why, despite the OC Jewish Federation and Rose Project efforts, the MSU at UCI will bring back the anti-Semitic wall of lies and anti-Semitic, anti-Israel Malik Ali. Interesting that the Muslim Brotherhood supported MSU brings back Malik, who was admonished by chancellor Drake a couple of years back, for calling for Jihad on the UCI campus. The question is: Why is Drake allowing this man back on campus to stir up Jihad and civil disobedience. And, will Drake be held accountable if violence does break out due to Malik's spew of hatred.

How about this:
