I just came across this story about the Secret Service investigating an article written by a writer for an Atlanta-based Jewish paper throwing out the idea of an assassination of President Obama by Mossad (Israel's intelligence agency).

I am glad to note that Jewish organizations are coming out to criticize what this writer put out. It is despicable. While I support Israel, oppose most of President Obama's policies, and think he is treating Israel poorly, there is no justification for writing this kind of stuff. To say it is irresponsible is an understatement.
I am old enough to remember the John F. Kennedy assassination (as well as Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King). These events have left indelible scars on our nation which last to this day. Much as I think Obama's presidency has hurt this country, the idea of an assassination is unthinkable, and the damage it would do to our country, our society, and race relations is incalculable. As for Israel, it would be the end of US-Israel relations, and would be a cause for war.
What was this idiot thinking about? His words can only add to the canard that American Jews owe their true allegiance to Israel rather than the US. It can only add to the already-increasing anti-Semitism evident in this country. Every responsible Jewish organization needs to speak out and condemn this article. I believe they will.
For those of us who oppose President Obama's policies, there is one course of action. We vote against him in November.
A thoroughly responsible statement Gary. Thank you. You have every right to vote for some alternative to Obama this fall, although you have my sympathies trying to pick from the current Republican field.
ReplyDeleteI see a similar dilemma on the horizon in Wisconsin. There is little doubt that a straight up question about recalling Scott Walker would receive majority support. However, unlike California, we don't get that option. We have to choose between Walker and a specific alternative. The Democrats could still snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, and the so-called "leadership" seem determined to do just that, by running tired old cretins for the sake of "name recognition."
