"Fousesquawk? I probably first of that a few weeks ago."
It has reached the stage where the Republicans are now doing the obvious- asking for a special prosecutor be be appointed to investigate this whole Fast and Furious mess and particularly whether the attorney general, the top law enforcement officer in the land, lied under oath. Common sense and the newly-released documents strongly indicate he did. All that is left is for a few witnesses to fill in the blanks and tell us about the inner workings of this conspiracy. I have a feeling that when enough principals are put under oath, there will be more than a few cooperating co-conspirators to add to the .ATF agents who blew the whistle.

It is clear to anyone with a brain and a non-partisan mind that Holder needs to resign now or be fired. Then he can work on defending himself against perjury and obstruction charges.
Given the sheer volume of paperwork in any government department, Holder's official response sounds, unfortunately, entirely plausible. A good basis for slimming down and streamlining government would be to define each job such that the person in the job has time to read all the paperwork necessary to keep on top of what s/he is responsible for. Unfortunately, so much has been placed on the attorney general's plate that no A.G. could be personally aware of everything in all subordinate agencies. That is a shame, but its not Holder's fault.
ReplyDeletePerhaps the Department of Justice needs to be separated into
a) lawyer functions
b) police functions
c) prison functions
The heads and staff of each would certainly need to communicate with each other, but they are distinct functions. One administrator per each could better stay on top of their responsibilities.
However, this raucous call for a special prosecutor is blatantly politically motivated. It is the old "If he didn't commit a crime, he lied about whether he might have" shell game. Until there is evidence a crime or gross malfeasance has been committed, this "call" should be treated with the derisive laughter it deserves.
Holder needs to be fired, but it will not happen in the Obama Administration. An investigator will be assigned and the ATF staff will sign like birds, as well as the DOJ career folk. Even though the majority of the career staff at the DOJ are "Leftists", they will sign to save their sorry butts. Let us hope that the song reveals the participation of the White House, in the middle of the 2012 election cycle.

There is yet no special prosecdutor, but the lying has already been in progress for some time. If not a special prosecutor, who will investigate the attorney general? He is the top law enforcement officer in the land.
ReplyDeleteCome to think of it, who will be the attorney for the attorney general?
