Steve Emerson Has Questions Re: Rauf's "Mosque"

"Of course we have room for 500 people."

Steve Emerson of the Investigative project on Terrorism is raising questions about the supposed mosque currently run by Feisal Abdul Rauf and his wife, Daisy Khan. It is reportedly located in a 17-floor apartment building and has room for 500 worshippers, thus qualifying for tax-emempt status.

It seems every day new and troubling details are emerging about this "bridge builder". In another new development, Rauf is admitting to and standing by a letter he wrote, in which he stated that true peace will only come to the Middle East when Israel is gone and the land is known as Palestine with a Jewish minority (I am paraphrasing).

Some bridge builder.

  1. Aren't you kind of getting tired of this story? I am. For me, even if he is what you suspect, I figure it's better to have them out there and in the open where they can be easily scrutinized instead of in some remote, isolated location.

  3. Like John Edens sensibly says, the only real question is one of property rights. If the property is legitimately owned and the building plans meet local zoning and safety codes, it is nobody's business what they do with the property.

The only caveat would be if activities that are, bona fide, ILLEGAL, were taking place there. In that case, the property could be seized under RICO. I don't expect that to happen.

Lance, of course Gary isn't getting tired of this story. He doesn't have to prove anything, all he has to do is keep raising esoteric "questions" which have no possible impact on events, and sit back to enjoy the cloud of dust he kicks up.
