UC System Going After Out-of-State and International Students
UC Berkeley riot
"What do we want?"
Oh yee suckers
The below story is at the LA Times:

Is this supposed to be an LA Times scoop? Hardly, I learned of this sometime last year at a teacher's meeting in the UC-Irvine Ext (where I teach). The reason is clear; out of state or international students pay a whole lot more in tuition. Everybody knows about the tuition rate hikes and budget cuts that have caused actual student protests on UC campuses including a full-scale riot at UC Berzerkley. At the time, I was commenting that these students were not even aware that in-state admissions were going to suffer at the expense of out-of-state and international admissions. I guess nobody was listening.
Oh yee suckers!
Here's the point; The decades-long spending madness in Sacramento-cheered and supported by university communities, who voted for and elected the legislators who are responsible, has brought California to the edge of bankruptcy-which led to the mess at UC.
Oh yee suckers!
Now, as part of the "solution", UC has stuck it to the tax-payers of California, who have supported the UC system, by making it harder for their own kids to get into the UC schools. Thus, they will have to look elsewhere to go to comparable universities-in many cases out of state. And guess who will be paying out-of-state rates to other state universities? You got it-the California taxpayers.
Oh yee suckers!
Full-scale riot? Hardly.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeleteCompared to what? Watts Riot?
Recently UC San Diego went to Israel to recruit Grad Students. Most didn't even consider that school. The recruiter wondered why. Perhaps he should look carefully at their Jewish policy before going to Israel to recruit more victims.
