Divestment (Israel) on UC College Campuses

(Hat tip to OC Independent Task Force on Anti-Semitism)

I am cross-posting this article by Thomas Elias of the San Jose Mercury News on the topic of the UC campus movements to pass resolutions urging divestment from Israel and firms that do business with Israel. It is entitled; "UC campuses are hotbeds of anti-Semitic Vitriol".

http://octaskforce.wordpress.com/2010/07/14/divestment-and-campus-anti-semitism/

As has been reported here, this idea is currently the rage among the crazies on the UC campuses-basically a coalition of leftist anarchists and various Muslim Student Associations. Resolutions have recently been voted down at Berkeley and San Diego after weeks of controversy and grief when the time of the student body governments could have been spent on more important and relevant issues. UC-Irvine will apparently be the next campus to go through this looniness.

As Elias points out, so much of the movement is based on false arguments and claims about Israel. It also comes down to the inescapable fact that these radicals and their know-nothing followers are holding the Jewish state to standards that they ignore when it comes to the Palestinians and the surrounding Arab states. They also love to single out Israel for "human rights violations" while ignoring real human rights violations in various other nations around the world.

That is where anti-Semitism comes in.

The biggest reason for the conflict in the Middle East is not who the rightful owners of the land are; it is about the fact that Israel is a non-Muslim and Jewish state in a sea of Muslim states. That they cannot tolerate.

That is where the anti-Semitism comes in.

That is largely why Elias' article is entitled;

"UC campuses are hotbeds of anti-Semitic vitriol".

  1. One of the complaints in the report that caught my eye and one that really angers me was this one;
    "They complain that the wall (actually a fence for 97 percent of its length) denies Palestinians access to medical care and to the territory of Israel itself."

    This is another way of saying they feel entitled to free medical care in Israel. Unmentioned and leaving aside the very real question of the suicide bombers that come in with unrestricted access, this complaint is unique as far as I know. What other country in the world is required to give free, yes, free, (well, actually paid for by Israeli citizens) medical care to anyone in the world who wants it, including sworn enemies?

    Another galling aspect is the lack of balance. Here is a link to a list of the multiple daily attacks by Islamic terrorists. http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/index.html#Attacks
    Only a few days ago 76 people were killed and another 65 injured in Uganda. Where is the outrage?
    On Tuesday alone more than twice as many people were killed than on the blockade incident.

    Here is a site with another ongoing list.

    Facts are stubborn things. Obama and the whole Left Wing wring their hands over the "plight of the poor Palestinians" The UC system, DOJ, and the State Dept have the same world view and mindset.

  2. Miggie,

    Check out my link to One New Heart under Worthy of Our Support. This is a Christian missionary in Israel who brings Palestinian children with heart defects from Gaza to Israel proper for free heart operations provided by Israeli doctors on their own time. You don't hear a lot about that. I have spoken with the man who does this. One of his associates in the states is a friend who introduced me.

    Why do Palestinian children have a high rate of heart defects?

    In breeding. Cousins marrying cousins.

  3. Is that in-breeding comment supposed to be a subtle insult that you're making? Because if you want to open that whole can of worms then why don't we talk about all of the health defects that many Jews suffer from due to their own in-breeding?

  4. Anonymous,

    While the word in-breeding has a rather strong emotional impact, it is not a slur in and of itself. Today, I had a conversation about that subject with a Jewish friend who is married to an Israeli. She informed me that there has also been a history of in-breeding within Jews as well though it is more historical in nature-at least within the American Jewish community (that latter part is my own impression).

    I myself was not really aware of the in-breeding issue among Palestinians until the person from One New Heart explained it to me. I can assure you he was not saying it as an insult.

    BTW- there are still joking references to in-breeding among West Virginians. That may draw a protest from a West Virginia reader, but a DEA guy I knew from West Virginia tells a joke that there are only five (family) names in the whole W Va telephone book.

    At any rate, marrying cousins eventually leads to birth defects. That is a fact. Ask the European Royal families.

  5. So Mr "anonymous" attempts makes his point by demeaning Jews? "Opening a can of worms, huh? Sounds like he is an expert on that subject.

  6. Ted,

    It's the old "so's your old man" argument.

  7. In-breeding definitely explains the British Royals. It occurs in groups unwilling or unable to find mates outside of their own group.

    Most Arab populations is very tribal, very cliquish. They refuse to look outside their tribe for partners (It is cultural in this case.).

    The same holds true for Ultra-orthodox Jews. They refuse to marry outside their own community (One reason the Lubavitch have reached out to the rest of the Jewish community.).

    While people joke about the folks in W. Virginia or Arkansas, theirs is not done by choice, but by foundry. It is mountains and rivers that caused such isolation. Thus the inbreeding of people.

    Outside of N. America, most Jews prefer not to marry outside of their faith.

  8. Leftist anarchist Muslim students?

    Now there is a coalition certain to bury hatchets in each other before long.
