The University of California at Irvine has announced the suspension of the Muslim Student Union in response to the February 8th 2010 incident when Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren's speech was disrupted. The OC Register has the story below:

The decision is being appealed by the MSU. Due to privacy rules, the university is unable to release details of any disciplinary action against individual students.
But for how long? Will this be just for the summer or for a year or two?
ReplyDeleteIt is a start.
The suspension (which I guess can be appealed) is for 2010-2011 school year. Probation for 2011-2012 school year and 50 hours of community servvice.
ReplyDeleteAs to disciplanry action to specific students, that is covered under school privacy. It would be up to the students to disclose whatever happened to them.
I missed it in the paper today. Some form of discipline was needed.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link.

The MSU has already appealed the recommendation.

They still deny, in face of all the evidence, that the students acted in their personal capacity and that this action would deprive them of a venue to associate which jeopardizes their rights under the First Amendment... it is also an "act of marginalization" just when Muslim students already feel besieged. The MSU also says it strives to be a positive addition to the UCI campus as well as the larger community.
Amazing!
When you read the list of lies cataloged in the UCI letter and added to by Steve Emerson it seems that it is a cultural thing with them. Some 50 Muslims participated in the demonstrations and knew and stuck to the lie that it was not all planned out beforehand. None of them has come forward since even though every single one of them knows it is a lie.
It seems to be ok if it is for a greater cause.
Miggie,
ReplyDeleteAnd they even got a humanitarian award from the Cross Cultural Center.
The Cross Cultural Center at UCI is a hive of anti-Israel sentiment. Three of the umbrella organizations that have their own offices their- the MSU, the Black Student Union, and MECHA (some Mexican organization with heavy ties to that racist Mexican movement that wants to return part of the US to Mexico) are all in bed with the MSU.
ReplyDeleteFront Page Coverage. The OC Register went big with this story.
