Random Shots in the Dark (27)
What better way to start off this latest edition of random shots than by beginning with the South Carolina Senate race, where Democrats nominated that rising star, Alvin Greene. Here's Greene's latest interview with CNN's Don Lemon, who thinks there is "something wrong" with the candidate.
Note to Don Lemon: There is nothing wrong with the guy; he's just dumb as a box of rocks.
Speaking of which, our own "box of rocks" (Boxer, that is) is running for re-election against ex-Hewlitt-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina in California. I don't know if Fiorina is any good, but I know that Boxer's box of rocks is about as heavy as Mr Greene's. Of course, our Governor, who has an (empty) beer stein for a head, somehow managed to vote for both of them in the primary.
Kalifornia Governor Katzenjammer at the "ballot box"
Now that failed attorney general, failed ex-governor of California and failed ex-mayor of Oakland, Jerry Brown is running for governor again, two of the major candidates for attorney general are worth noting. First there is Kamala (I'll never seek the death penaty") Harris, DA of sanctuary city San Francisco. Then there is LA City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo, whose most notable accomplishment was having his wife crack up a government car while driving around on personal errands. The good news is he lost the primary. The bad news is he lost to Harris. So now the choice is between Harris and LA DA Steve Cooley. Who should you vote for? Well, that all depends on whether you want crooks in jail or on the streets. Take your choice.
Before we leave Kalifornia, LA Mayor Tony Villaraigosa has earned a shot this week by showing up at a "Don't text and drive" press conference to announce that he will be the official spokesperson for the "Don't text and drive" campaign. He pledged that no longer would he text and drive. When asked how much he drove to begin with, Villaraigosa answered, "Well, actually I don't drive at all."
Meanwhile in Nevada....
That's right. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. That's Rory Reid on the left. He's the son of Harry Reid and running for governor of Nevada. Here is one of his pearls of political wisdom:
"This is a unique opportunity to unleash the innovative spirit of the people here and build a new approach to economic development toward a better future."
Just when you thought we were about to see the last of the Reid family.
Meanwhile, way down yonder off the coast of Louisiana.....
But there is good news; President Obama is going to address the nation Tuesday about the oil spill. I hear he's going to announce that the sea has risen, or gone down, or something like that.
See this picture? These are weapons seized in early June 2010 near the Arizona/Mexico border (apparently on the Mexican side).

Still want to condemn Arizona?
And to cap off your day, here is this great news from the Houston Chronicle:

Your check, Sir.
"Good news. mein Fuehrer. The Russian jails have bingo every night."
I can't imagine anything more blindly obtuse than running for governor the same year your father is running for re-election to the senate. It reminds me that one reason I voted for Obama is that I did not want 24-28 years of the presidency alternating between Bushes and Clintons -- not to mention, I would like the first woman to serve a president to get there on her own dime, not taking off at the conclusion of her husband's career.
ReplyDeleteIs Cooley the DA who developed a sensible approach to only using "three strikes" when it REALLY made sense, and even moved to court to reconsider some blatantly disproportionate use of the law? If so, I would vote for him.
Excuse the non-sequitor:
ReplyDeleteIs this true?

Many in our community have waited a long time for UC Irvine officials to take action against the ongoing actions by the Muslim Student Union. Some thought it would never happen. Today’s blog is will certainly get your attention.
Jewish Federation Orange County announced this morning it has learned the results of UC Irvine’s judicial process. UCI has suspended the Muslim Student Union (MSU) for one year and placed it on disciplinary probation for an additional year. That’s not all. The MSU is also required to collectively complete 50 hours of community service. As a result, it will not be allowed to conduct organized campus events until at least the fall of 2011.
Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteThat is my understanding.
