Monica Conyers, Wife of John Conyers, Gets 37 Months in Jail

I just got off the official website of John Conyers (D-MI). There is all kinds of boiler plate stuff about what a great job he is doing in Congress. Strangely, there is nothing about the fact that his wife, Monica, a former Detroit councilwoman, was sentenced to 37 months in prison today for bribery.

As she entered the courtroom, Monica was acting like the star of a broadway play throwing kisses to her supporters. The mood changed when the judge refused to allow her to withdraw her guilty plea and instead sentenced her to 37 months in jail. At that point, the courtroom had to be cleared with Conyers yelling that she would appeal and that she was not going to go to jail for "something she didn't do."

Oh yes she is. You see, there is that sticky little fact that she engaged in a plea deal and entered a guilty plea. At the time, she assured the judge she was doing so voluntarily as is always done.

She did it. Case closed.

Oh yes. John wasn't there. Either was his website.
