Joe Biden's Mission of Peace

"Ah yes, by jove. Peace in our time. Where's that TV? Is that Mickey Mouse I hear? Who's that guy talking about trees and rocks?"

This week has featured the hysterical sight of the hapless Joe Biden being the latest envoy to embark on the fool's errand of trying to achieve the Holy Grail of a Mideast peace treaty between Israel and the Palestinians. To Biden's dismay, his arrival in Israel coincided with the announcement that Israel was building some 1300 new residences in Jerusalem for Israeli families.

Now Joe is trying to make nice with an infuriated Mahmoud Abbas, head of the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank. The administration thinks they (and Israel) can make a deal with Abbas. Maybe they can, but it would just be a first step to eventually taking all of Israel down the road. They (the Palestinians) are committed to the eventual goal of destroying Israel.

If Joe doesn't believe that, maybe he should flip on PA TV while he is relaxing in his hotel room. (Do they have hotels in the West Bank?) If he likes cartoons, he can watch the Palestinian Mickey Mouse talking about Jihad against the Jews. Or he can turn the channel and watch some Koran-thumping cleric railing about the Jews and quoting the infamous hadith about killing the Jews hiding behind trees and rocks.

Then he can go back to the Israelis and exert more pressure on them to make concessions and eventual "peace in our time".
