The Glenn Beck Boycott-Is There a Van Jones Connection?
Van Jones
Apparently, Glenn Beck's ratings at Fox are so sky-high that the far-left has decided to bring him down. They don't like the things that Beck says-especially about President Obama, so they are now engaging in a boycott of products that sponsor Beck's show. Many of the sponsors are dropping Beck as a result.
The boycott is being led by ColorOfChange.com, a black activist organization, which just coincidentally, was co-founded by one Van Jones. This gentleman is a long-time activist, who has self-described himself as, among other things, a communist. Later in life, Jones became involved in environmental issues and is currently President Obama's "Green Jobs Czar". The ColorOfChange web site still lists Mr Jones on its executive page, but adds that he is no longer "active".
I have a couple of questions:
1 What if any connection does Van Jones, a member of the Obama Administration, have to this boycott? If there is a connection, that raises troubling questions about how the administration reacts to its critics. Rather Nixonian, wouldn't you say?
2 What is it about the ColorOfChange boycott that has been so effective in convincing companies like Walmart, Best Buy, CVC and others to drop sponsorship of Beck? Is it simply that this insignificant organization has sent them a letter objecting to Beck's views and threatened to stop shopping at their stores? Or is there any other form of pressure being brought to bear, say the type of pressure that Jesse Jackson has used so effectively?
Just a couple of questions. Maybe our news media would like to investigate.
Or maybe not.
Wow, you're really reaching on this one, Gary. Once again, conservatives are all for the free market until it comes back to bit them in the ass. In other words, advertisers are free to do whatever the hell they want. If running ads on that nutjob's show is going to hurt their bottom line, then it is perfectly logical and rational behavior for them to withdraw their support. Simple enough.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Beck will cry on the air about it.
Bryan,
ReplyDeleteI don't have all the answers on this issue, that's why I asked two questions. If a White House official is linked to this boycott drive, that is troublesome. If this outfit is preparing to throw in the race card to the boycott issue a'la Jesse Jackson, that is troublesome. The companies should be able to decide for themselves. Consumers can also decide not to buy from them.
If the left had any substance Fox & Company wouldn't be a threat. I mean I have a lot of common sense. It's easy to figure out. They attack what is a threat to them. The truth. Good for Beck. Great blog. All the best.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment, Neonguy.
ReplyDeleteYou all missed one thing !!
ReplyDeleteJones has a book published by HarperCollins, a sister company to Fox News. They don't seem to think Jones is a radical racist at all. In fact, they promote him as a legitimate authority on the subject of green jobs. so do alittle research on this u may find out some interesting things !!!
Dear Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'll find out what a "green job" is. I think I've learned all I need to know about Mr Jones from his own words. And I frankly don't care about what books he has published by what publisher. Now that the latest tape has come out where he compares Bush to a crackhead, I give him 48 hrs max before he's gone.
