More Government Waste-The Orange County Sign

The Orange County Sign- a "sense of place"

This morning, the Orange County Transit Authority unveiled a marker on the Interstate 5 freeway that runs from Los Angeles to Orange County with a sign that reads.....

Orange County

This is now the official marker (19'x 20') that lets motorists know that they have crossed over from LA County to Orange County.

Total cost?

$155,000.

“This gives people a sense of place,” said Chris Norby, an Orange County supervisor and OCTA board member. “Humans need landmarks, they need signs and monuments.”

“....It was a small fraction of the entire budget and will enjoy lasting appreciation from people,” Norby said.

Great. Just what I needed, a sense of place, a sign, a monument. Thanks, Mr Norby for giving me what I needed.

  1. One good earthquake and that sign goes down. What was wrong with the old type of sign, you know, the green and white one that was put up on the highway?
