It seems that the Mexican government is putting a happy face on the border situation with the end of Title 42. Title 42 ended Thursday night, May 9 (sic), and though it was expected that there would be a huge flow of migrants at the US border in the face of "lies" that now the doors would be open for their entry, the foreign minister, Marcelo Ebrard claimed that the flow of people in Mexican territory seeking to illegally cross into the neighboring country (US) "is declining".
"The flow (of migrants) is declining, we have not had confrontations or situations of violence at the border," said the foreign minister, who confirmed the arrival of elements of the National Guard, who are disarming and taking deterrent actions so that the migrants don't cross illegally.
He noted that according to information from the National Defense secretary, the same number of migrants that were in Ciudad Juarez and Matamoros, approximately, 19,000 and 5,500, was holding steady.
"There is a situation of calm, normalcy, without observing arrival (of migrants) or major conflicts. Yes, there is a flow, but no confrontation," he pointed out.
The secretary of Foreign Relations added that in the case of Tijuana, Baja California, there are 500 people present in a peaceful manner and added that in Ciudad Juarez, a group of 24 migrants pierced the wall and crossed into the US, but were detained upon entering by agents of the Border Patrol.
US is complying with agreement on migration
Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard claimed that in this aspect, the US has kept its word in respect to the granting of 360,000 temporary permits or visas for entry of migrants who go through the process.
The official said that the US government has already issued more than 100,000 permits and initiated 100,000 more for migrants from Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, and reiterated that the end of Title 42 does not mean that restrictions have ended and that migrants can enter illegally.
He added that the National Institute of Migration also confirmed a decline in the flow of migrants that has been observed in the past few days.
