Sweden: Knife Attack on 10-Year-Old Girl and Grandmother in Gothenburg (Cont.)

Here is a video of a police spokesman regarding the attack today in Gothenburg where a 10-year-old Dutch girl and her grandmother were stabbed on the street in an apparent act of jihad. (The attacker, reported to be a Middle Eastern man with Swedish citizenship and a long police record, reportedly shouted, "Allahu akhbar" during the attack.) There is no new update on the condition of the girl, who is in serious condition. The video is from Aftonbladet.

 

Here is a video posted by Reddit which is going viral showing the bystanders holding down the suspect. Various sources are reporting the suspect's name as (deleted). I still consider this unconfirmed, and I don't expect Swedish authorities or media to confirm it. *I am deleting the name until further confirmation comes in from recognized sources.

*Update: RTL Nieuws (Netherlands) is reporting that the girl, who Dutch sources say is 9 years old, is out of danger.

*Update: The Swedish site, Samnytt, is reporting that the suspect is a 36-year-old man who was born in Iran and immigrated to Sweden with his family at age 3. He reportedly has several arrests on his record. Partial translation of the Samnytt article by Fousesquawk is below.

Samnytt has learned the identity of the suspect from reliable sources. He is a 36-year-old man who was born in Iran and who came to Sweden together with his mother, father, and two siblings when he was 3 years old. 

The 36-year-old has since been convicted for a large number of crimes. The first time was when he was 16 years old, and after that repeated times throughout his adult life. Among others, he has been convicted of several thefts, an assault, and two robberies.

Just before Christmas 2015, armed with an object similar to an automatic rifle in appearance, he robbed a gold shop in central Gothenburg. He took watches with a value of over 2 million kronors.

The penalty was 3 years in prison. He has since been convicted for further criminality, On 2 occasions, the punishment was 9 months and 3 months respectively.
