Alejando Mayorkas and Climate Change

Alejandro Mayorkas, Joe Biden's feckless head of Homeland Security, has made another boffo statement about the immigration/border crisis we are facing. Like every other problem in the world, Mayorkas is laying a lot of it off on ...you guessed it:

Climate Change.

And to provide examples, he cites Costa Rica and Colombia as countries dealing with an influx of migrants.

It is true that Columbia is dealing with people from Venezuela seeking refuge, and Costa Rica is dealing with people from Nicaragua seeking refuge. In both cases, it has little to nothing to do with climate change. After all, if you are fleeing from climate change, why would you seek refuge in the country next door, which has a similar climate and landscape?

Having visited three of the four countries in question (excepting Venezuela), let me contribute this to Mayorkas' empty chest of knowledge.

Venezuelans are crossing over into Colombia for the same reason other Venezuelans are crossing into Brazil. They are fleeing the repressive rule of the communist government, a rule which has produced near-starvation conditions for much of the country's populace. This is an oil-rich country that should be the most prosperous in Latin America.

In the case of Costa Rica, they are getting migrants from Nicaragua seeking work because Nicaragua is a poverty-stricken basket case under Daniel Ortega's communist rule. Costa Rica, on the other hand, is a free and prosperous country that takes care of its people quite well. It is the jewel of Central America, and one of the only countries in the region whose people are not trying to get into the US. On my second visit to Costa Rica a few years ago, I took a day tour into Nicaragua. I was struck by the beauty of both countries, but the contrast in living conditions could not be more striking.

Mayorkas, who is the child of Cuban emigres, should know better. Unfortunately, he doesn't.

Mayorkas also states that our government is doing a "good job" at the border and  "doing it with our partners to the south". They are not doing a good job. They are doing a miserable job because the borders are wide open. As for our partners to the south, in places like Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala, they are basically driving their people out of their respective countries while Mexico is facilitating the human wave as they march through Mexico en route to our border-just as Mexico facilitates the wave of drugs crossing our border as it has for decades. And now fentanyl has been added to the mix. So much for our partners to the South.

Alejandro Mayorkas is a boob. And he is a dangerous boob.
