Italy: Green Passes for Italians and Open Doors for Migrants

In Italy, the government has instituted the so-called Green Pass-proof of Covid vaccination needed for people to access facilities like museums and indoor dining in restaurants. Protests are breaking out all over the country.

Meanwhile, hundreds of illegal migrants continue to be allowed to disembark in Italian ports after being picked up at sea by NGO ships. It goes without saying that many are testing positive for Covid.

Is there a contradiction here?

The below article from today's Il Tempo is translated by Fousesquawk.

Health bomb, Italians in danger. Francesco Lollobrigida blurts out on migrants and Covid. Naval blockade

The ship, Ocean Viking, has accessed the port of Pozzallo to disembark 549 migrants, picked up in international waters, bringing the number of illegal arrivals on the Italian coast to almost 30,000 people. Francesco Lollobrigida, group leader of Fratelli d'Italia in the Chamber, comes down very hard particularly on the authorities who impose Covid restrictions on the Italian people and then permit the disembarkation with numerous positive results already emerging after the first tests: "We had long predicted it, and unfortunately, the facts are confirming it: The emergency immigration, with the disembarkations that continue in bursts, brings with it enormous critical issues from the health point of view. We have already seen it in these last months, and the 549 illegal immigrants disembarked this morning from the Ocean Viking at Pozzallo, 30 of whom currently test positive with Covid, certify it."

"A situation," continues the FdI deputy, "that can represent a real health bomb ready to explode, putting the citizenry in danger and exposing and men and women in uniform to enormous risks. An immediate naval blockade is needed so as not to frustrate the sacrifices of the Italian people. Fratelli d'Italia has been clamoring for this for a long time, and now our request cannot be ignored."

Yesterday came the firm stance of Georgia Meloni on the case of the NGO ship docked in Italy: "While the life of the Italian people is continually subjected to controls and restrictions, 549 migrants are given permission to disembark at Pozzalllo without any conditions. People who many times are found without documents and who are often hard to test. Sometimes due to the urgency of transporting them to reception facilities, others because they refuse. I ask the government, and in particular, Minister Lamorgese, is it possible to continue with this absurdity?"
