Minneapolis Police Shooting

On the night of December 30, 2020, Minneapolis police officers shot and killed a Somali man identified as Dolal Idd during a felony car stop. Immediately, many in the community began hurling accusations against the police.

Not surprisingly, the local Minneapolis chapter of the Council of American Islamic Relations (CAIR) took up the call, calling for an investigation into the officers' actions and also accusing them of acting improperly during subsequent execution of a search warrant on Idd's residence based on probable cause weapons might be present in the residence.

In response, the MPD is defending its officers' actions both in the shooting and the search warrant. In the below link, the MPD has released a video of the execution of the search warrant.

Finally, the MPD has released officer bodycam video of the shooting itself (viewer warning). It is pretty clear that the suspect not only refused officers' orders to stop his car but also initiated the exchange of gunfire from inside his car once he was boxed in. At that point, officers returned fire, and Idd was killed.

As you can see from the search warrant video, there were several people in the house including children. For children, this is always going to be a traumatic event, and it is unfortunate. That, however, is beyond the control of the police, and the video shows they acted professionally.

As usual, CAIR jumps to conclusions whenever there is an incident between police and someone from the Muslim community. This is the same bunch that claims to be the largest representative of  Muslims in the US. A more accurate description would be that CAIR is a representative of the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas.
