“This loving refrain from Assata Shakur still rings true as I shelter-in-place: ‘It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains,'” the memo continued.
-Mona Hicks, Stanford Dean of Students
Last week, the Stanford Daily, one of Stanford University's student-run campus newspapers, refused to print an op-ed by the president of the Stanford College Republicans, Stephen Sills, in which he criticized a June 1 e-mail to the campus community by Dean of Students, Mona Hicks, in which she quoted Joanne Chesimard, aka Assata Shakur. Chesimard, who was convicted for her involvement in a 1970s shootout in which a New Jersey police officer was killed, escaped from prison, and is now a fugitive in Cuba.

"I regret quoting Assata Shakur, without taking full consideration of her history."
-Mona Hicks
What exactly did Ms Hicks think she was quoting Chesimard for, her work with the Red Cross? You don't quote people like that unless you agree with their ideology. This woman should resign. She is not fit to occupy her position. Sadly, our universities are filled with others like her who are indoctrinating our children.
