Trump vs. "The Squad"

The lastest Trump “controversy” is over comments he has made this week in tweets against a group of 4 radical female Democrat congresswomen now calling themselves, “the Squad”. In truth, the 4 women, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Ayanna Pressley, have been making hateful statements on an almost daily basis. They have expressed nothing but scorn toward America, and in the cases of at least two of them (Omar and Tlaib), derogatory statements about Jews that can only be described as anti-Semitic. Trump has merely responded, but the left and the media are once again in a frenzy calling the President a racist-which he is not.

Trump, in his inartful tweets, made it seem that he thought all 4 women were immigrants. In actuality, only Omar is an immigrant (from Somalia). She came to the US as a child as a refugee with her family. Trump suggested that the women should go back to the dysfunctional and crime ridden societies they left and fix the problems there if they found America so bad.

To tell an immigrant to go back to their own country is the harshest statement you can make. But in the case of Omar, it applies. Far from being grateful to this country, she trashes it with regularity, insulting American Jews, referring to 9-11 as “somebody did something”, complaining about the Somalis that the Black Hawk Down troops killed on that tragic day in Somalia and mocking one of her college professors for the way he referred to Al Qaeda after 9-11.

Tlaib, an American born to Palestinian immigrants, is also an anti-Semite, partially due to her rabid opposition to Israel and partially, I suspect, due to her upbringing. This is the woman who said immediately after being sworn into Congress, “We’re going to impeach the mother-f—-“. Most recently, she spoke of the “calming feeling” she got when she thought about how “her people” had given refuge to Jews after the Holocaust only to have their land stolen from them. Her words were not only insensitive but historically inaccurate to the point of being a sick joke.

Then there is Ocasio-Cortez, a 29-year-old ex-barmaid, who betrays her ignorance and sheer stupidity every time she speaks. Last week, she was down on the US-Mexico border on a Congressional inspection of the detention facilities. First, she berated the Customs and Immigration authorities then repeated a claim by a female detainee that a guard had told her if she was thirsty, she could drink out of the toilet, a dubious claim at best, which the ICE officials effectively rebutted. In addition, last week she publicly accused House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, herself a Democrat, of somehow targeting congresswomen of color.

The theme, according to all 4 women, is that America is a racist nation and Trump is a racist himself. On the one hand, we have these radical politicians making hateful commnents about others, especially Jews, while complaining of racism on the other hand. It is as if the term, “person of color” automatically bestows nobility upon someone while those “racist and privileged whites” can be trashed all day long. In their world, Jews don’t get the luxury of being included in their “marginalized communities” because they are perceived (in many cases wrongly) of being white-and, of course, oh, so privileged.

And when someone like Trump comes along and calls them out, he is immediately branded as a racist and the “leader of white nationalists”. On Tuesday on CNN, the talking heads were discussing how Trump supporters can live with themselves for supporting this awful man. My question is how those who voted for these 4 woman can live with themselves after putting such radical America-haters into Congress.

But don’t expect contrition from the latter group of voters. If you think the voters in these districts are going to “throw the bums out” in 2020, I fear you will be sadly mistaken. They are a reflection of their constituencies, and I would bet they can’t wait to re-elect them. We have long learned our lesson with the never-ending re-elections of people like Pelosi and Maxine Waters, just to name a couple.

But if I were Trump or the Republican leadership, I would make these women the poster children of the Democrat party in the upcoming election. In fact, the Democrat party has been largely taken over by the radical left. It has placed them in a bad position, politically. Does the party rally around their own and defend these characters, thus, alienating the vast center of the country, or does it disown them and sacrifice its base?

Trump said what needed to be said irregardless of who is offended. As far as I am concerned, Omar, in particular, should consider returning to Somalia if she finds this country so distasteful. If the country’s electorate is willing to overlook this radicalism and elect more Democrats in 2020, it will not speak well for the future of America and our democracy.
