Emory University Defends Eviction Notices to Jewish Students

Emory University: "Jews not wanted here."


Students for Justice in Palestine is an insidious, anti-semitic organization co-founded by UC Berkeley professor Hatem Bazian, a man plagued with his own past statements which have resulted in accusations of anti-semitism against him. SJP has chapters in well over 100 campuses across the US.

SJP's favorite tactics are those of disruption of Jewish, pro-Israel events, intimidation, and harassment. One of their favored tricks is slipping eviction notices under dorm room doors of Jewish students. Up to now, no university had actually put its imprimatur on this ugly act. Most had responsibly condemned it.

That was until Emory University in Atlanta. David Schoen has a report in Times of Israel.

"At Emory, shockingly, the University’s Office of Residence and Housing not only approved the message on the flyer, it put its official stamp on the bottom of the flyer with an official signature."

"When confronted with this outrageous development, the university meaninglessly contended that it had approved the flyer for posting on a bulletin board but not on individual dorm rooms and other student housing. It has steadfastly refused to apologize for putting its official imprimatur on the anti-Semitic SJP flyer that targeted its students."

It gets worse. In response, the campus newspaper, Emory Wheel, put out this op-ed by a student writer.

"ESJP deserves credit for starting the discussion." 

That drew this response from a Jewish student.

This is what we are talking about when we say that Jewish students should not attend universities like these, which refuse to protect Jewish students from this type of harassment. These are the kinds of universites who should see their donors disappear.

Emory is a private insitution, and I don't know how much they would be affected if federal funds were withheld as President Trump has considered doing. For all I know, Emory does not recieve federal funding. But what is so noteworthy about this incident is that it is the first time a university has involved itself with and defended such a despicable act. Once again, we see yet another example of how low our universities have sunk.
