I will be the first to admit that I don't know the truth behind the accusations of Christine Blasey Ford that she was assaulted by Brett Kavanaugh at an alcohol-fueled high school party 30 years or so ago. From the beginning, this has looked just like the accusations of Anita Hill against Clarence Thomas. Coincidentally, both Hill (University of Oklahoma) and Ford (Stanford) are university professors.
When Senator Dianne Feinstein announced the allegation and said the woman wanted to remain anonymous, my reaction was go ahead with the vote tentatively scheduled for Thursday. Now that Ford has come out publicly, I say let her come and testify under oath and let Kavanaugh respond under oath. Yes, this means another circus just like Clarence Thomas.
It is important to note that while the Hill accusations were never proven or disproven, there was no serious corroboration. Therefore, it was proper to confirm Thomas. Same here. Unless Ford can provide convincing corroboration, the Kavanaugh nomination should go through.
