French gendarme gave his life swapping himself for hostages
If you want to know the definition of a hero, French police colonel Arnaud Beltrame fit the definition perfectly. Today, France is having a memorial service for Beltrame and three others, who lost their lives in this week's terror attack in southern France. Beltrame died when he swapped himself for a hostage.

As a retired law enforcement officer, I can't think of any act that would require more courage than swapping myself to a terrorist in exchange for a hostage.
