Modern Language Association Rejects BDS

Hat tip The College Fix

The Modern Language Association, made up of academic language teachers and professors, has rightly decided to reject a Boycott, Divest and Sanctions (against Israel) resolution that would have called on universities to cut academic ties with Israeli universities and scholars.

Now they can get back to the business of teaching language.

No doubt there will be much crying and gnashing of teeth by the clowns who pushed this measure.

I see in this NY Times article on the vote that UC Riverside's BDS proponent-in-chief, David Lloyd, is trying to put a happy face on the whole thing.

“Our goal isn’t just to pass resolutions, but to reach the public and move the public toward understanding the conditions under which Palestinians live,” he said. “I think we’ve succeeded in that.”

This is the same character that brought BDS co-founder Omar Barghouti to speak at UCR in 2014. I was present and videotaped it. When I asked during the q and a if the sponsors intended to bring any speakers with opposing views to provide some balance to his student audience, Lloyd termed the question "preposterous".

Yes, Dr. Lloyd, it is "preposterous" to expose university students to both sides of an issue such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Don't I realize that only one side can be presented to students and one side alone?

Preposterous indeed.
