Parody Shmarody. Did you know that February 23, which should be observed with the same solemnity as Pearl Harbor, is the anniversary of the execution of Mildred Harnack, a member of one of the most effective resistance units in Nazi occupied Europe, The Red Orchestra? The Nazis beheaded her in a Berlin prison in 1943. Harnack was born in Milwaukee, moved to Germany in 1929 with her husband Arvid, where they laterled a group that helped Jews flee Germany, documented Nazi crimes and distributed anti-Hitler propaganda. In words that might have been uttered by Gary Fouse, she died saying "And I loved Germany so much."
