Free Speech Was Upheld at University of Washington

Hat tip The College Fix

As the police (and the rest of us) try to sort out the shooting Friday night at the University of Washington during a loud and disorderly protest of Milo Yiannopoulos' appearance, the Seattle Times has given kudos to the university for allowing the event to take place in spite of demands to cancel it.

No doubt many schools are going to be tempted to ban appearances by Yiannopoulos going forward in the wake of the shooting. That would mean a surrender to mob rule. We are either going to have freedom of speech in this country or we are not. To be sure, there is a move by the left and many Islamists to shut down speech they don't like. With few exceptions, the response of conservatives to speech they don't like is to highlight it and disagree with it. The left would enjoy much more respect if they learned that lesson.
