"I'm sad about the crashed Russian military jet. The TU-154 could have carried up to 180 military personnel instead of just 92!"
-Hussam Ayloush
*Update: He's taken it down and apologized.
Hussam Ayloush is the Southern California CEO of the Council on American Islamic Relations, a Muslim Brotherhood front group that supports Hamas but poses as a human right group. Similarly, Ayloush describes himself as a human rights activist, which I don't buy for a minute.
In no way do I support what the Russians are doing in Syria, and I understand Ayloush is of Syrian origin. However, I take no pleasure in this crash. These were musicians of the famed Alexandrov Ensemble, the successors to the Red Army Choir, going to Syria to perform for the Russian military. It is they who we think of when we hear the old Soviet (now Russian) national anthem with one of the most beautiful melodies of any national anthem. I myself have used it for parodies on Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
To repeat, Russia is no ally of ours, and they are doing despicable things in Syria-as it seems all sides are doing. I just think that Ayloush's comments are not appropriate.
But when has this guy ever said anything appropriate?
* Update: Today, our local fish wrap, the OC Register has listed Ayloush among OC's 100 most influential people.
Musicians and journalists were on that flight. Each had a name and a family.
ReplyDeleteI remember the words of John Donne "Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind."
In any case, "human rights" activists do not, should not rejoice in human suffering
Very well stated. Hussam Ayloush is a hypocrite and a phony. He poses as a civil/human rights activists yet cavorts with people like Yusuf al Qaradawi. His organization supports Hamas. His organization is basically an arm of the Muslim Brotherhood.
ReplyDeleteShame on the Orange County Register for repeatedly embracing this character.
Isn't it a little like the joke "What do you call a busload of 100 lawyers going over a cliff?"?
ReplyDeleteThe punch line is "A good start."
